11th Doctor blue bowties / series 6 costume discussion

I've heard Steve Ricks mentioned a lot but I can't find his blog. Would anyone be so kind as to point me in the right direction?

Yes, I just recently ordered my suspenders from Swagger & Swoon. The jury is still out on weather this are the exact ones the BBC purchased for the show - but they sure look like them and are THE choice for serious 11th Doctor Cosplayers.
I'm fixing to sell my 'close enough' narrow suspender set (burgundy and navy) once I get my new ones.

Does anyone know what the Swagger & Swoon bow ties are like, and what series are they supposed to be from? I'm assuming 5.

I believe HaroldVonBraun had posted an on set pic of Matt wearing mismatched suspenders and tie.
Here is a screen cap from tonight's show showing the same.

I know that this incompletely here owes, but I receive an answer soon possibly here. The 5. season bow-tie would interest, this with a what kind of kind? So would interest, than the kind is on this picture

I second that... What ARE you talkin bout Willis?

Also. Not really wanting to start a whole thread for the one pic I found from Dragon Con (excuse the hair, humidity is a *****), so minor threadjack here, but I figure it's cool being a general discussion sort of thread... I kind of threw this together just for fun for Thursday night at Dragon Con(as much as one can throw a frock coat together). Thought you all would appreciate it here. I still have a bunch of bow tie fabric left, and once I get caught up on life I'll probably start a sale thread in the JY.

For just "throwing" something together, that looks pretty nice!
(Definitely interested should your start up a future JY thread).

Also, does anyone have any leads on the hat the doctor wears in "A Town Called Mercy"?

It's definitely not the same from the Stetson in season 6 and maybe not even a Stetson?

You can see it is a different hat from the stitching along the brim, which was absent on the Season 6 hat. It also looks to be a crushable felt hat similar (but not exactly) to this one here.

Any thoughts? If it is a Stetson, It doesn't appear to be in the current lineup and probably something that was lying around the prop department.

To be honest, i'd guess it's from some costume department. Wether it be BBC's (Which i'm not sure exists) or perhaps one belonging to the location where they shot it.
I wouldn't be surprised if they just picked it out when finding the costumes for the episode. Most of the other ones from the episode look to be from some costume department.

BBC does have an extensive costume collection. And they aren't afraid to reuse anything. Downton Abbey is actually famous for being an almost exclusively recycled show pulled from existing stock.

It did feel like the Hutchins stetson may have been purchased in America when shooting the first couple of episodes.

I don't. I had to infer what the back looked like from the existing pics. Since it's based on a frock coat pattern, it stands to reason it would have a fiddle-back. There's a pic of him running, and you can reasonably tell that there is a center back vent, and that the skirt panels appear to be flat, with no standard pleating.

Best I have until more pics surface.

Fiddleback refers to the seaming on the back of the jacket and is quite common in frock coats. Especially those with the waist seam.
Since this jacket is modeled on a Victorian frock coat, it only makes sense that it would be so. that isn't to say that it is, but as a tailor by trade, that's the direction I'd go if someone asked me to build this.
