Here's a little side model I'm working on..

Those droid kits are great. I didn't think I would have much interest in 1/12 figures, but after building R2 and C3PO I have found I need to collect more

Agreed... They are a lot of fun. I do need that C3PO kit... This one has R5 in it, too... So I can always just repaint R2. I am going to try to light this R2 as well... That should be a challenge!

I had the R2 / BB8 kit first, then picked up C-3PO. I painted R2 and BB-8, but used the stock finish for C-3PO since I wanted him and R2 to look like they did at the medal ceremony at the end of A New Hope ( idea was to do a small back drop of the Yavin wall with ivy behind them)

Of course I also wanted to weather R2 more so I got the R2/R5 combo. Still need to pick up another C-3PO and this time paint him like he was on Tatooine

Lighting is a challenge considering how it is engineered. Love to see what you come up with

I did some work on R2's right leg last night. I used some copper colored wire in place of the plastic that came with the kit... Gives him a much more realistic look. I had to drill the holes a bit larger and shape the wires into the correct form, but I think it turned out well.

The silver parts are done with a base of Mr Finisher 1500 and using a cloth to rub the silver Rub 'n Buff. I'm also using the antique white Run 'n Buff over the white parts to give it a more metal look.

looks fantastic brother! superb modification(y) ...Mr Finisher 1500, I'll need to look into that. I've been using testors metalizers for such things and for the most part does a good job, but not always.

Looks like a very convincing finish. I was curious about that antique white

Thanks, brother... Mr. Finisher is what I use for by primer/basecoat over the plastic... The Rub 'n Buff stuff is what I use to give it the metallic look. I used it on R2's dome.

Ahh, I see...duh me again. A silvery version of the gold stuff I got for the the 1/72 3PO. I'll acquire some and try it. Thanks man!

You are correct... Adam Savage uses rub n buff too... So you know it's good stuff..lol.. I just wanted to make it clear what I used so if you wanted to try it, you didn't get the wrong stuff...

I used some copper colored wire for the cables on his foot. The plastic pieces included in the kit did not offer the realism I wanted. All I used was some wire from a hobby center that I found in the make your own jewelry Isle. It's typically used for making necklaces. It is soft and pliable, yet strong enough to hold its shape

love it!(y)

Been some time since I've posted on any progress with this diorama... I've finally gotten around to getting the lights done on the first landing platform. I think I'm going to start working on the building next and then do the other platform with lights and stuff... Anyway, here's where I'm at:

That's a great little kit.

The canopy was a total pain to clean up though, but came out pretty good in the end.

You have to fill in one of the gun on each side to get it to match the filming model, but I was actually tempted to leave it on both sides.

I also added a thick copper rod as a pin through the flat connections pieces to the middle engine part for strength in bonding as well as to avoid sagging of it later on

Thanks for the tips! I'll definitely throw a copper rod in there. The canopies I got with mine are broken, so I'll have to do some surgery on them.
