1/700 & 1/350 scale BH Cygnus builds

Jedi Dade,

I'm working on Martyn's 1/350 version so I can't be of much help with Dave's 1/700 version. I'm just learning about the possibilities of the different materials.

Having said that Shapeways says the 1/350 observatory drum, tower interstage, command dome interior and fuel manifold are now in production with the tower and tower base to follow; all FUD.

I would imagine the antennae are going to be problematic in either 700 or 350, if not to make then to ship without damage. We shall see...

This is the main reason I placed a single order for all the parts all at once. The last thing I wanted was to pay a lot of money for only part of a kit.

I first contacted SW to confirm that ALL the parts are available and printable. I received confirmation from Adela that every part is confirmed and can be printed in the available options. Then I placed my order. After I received the Email stating that some parts can't be printed, I asked them to select another material that will work or cancel my entire order. I have not heard back.

I just called PayPal and they said if SW cannot print all my parts as stated in the Email, I will get a refund for the order. So now I play the waiting game. :/

When you get a knockback on an order, if they don't de-list the item in that material, just wait a few days and try re-ordering. They can be extremely variable - it literally depends on who is on duty.

mythshaker, yes, the Pinshape part is 2 x main engine barrels while the Shapeways one is 1 x barrel. The Pinshape option works out $20 cheaper.

I asked them to use the white plastic but once again they said only Dave can make that offer. :/

Nwerke,

Could you please make the Spire available in FD and FUD? Your own experience says the WSF was a it too flexible. I'm actually not going to order anything else until this order actually arrives and is checked out so no hurry; just planning ahead.

Re: 1/700 & 1/350 scale BH Cygnus builds

I'm afraid everything that can be listed in any other material, already is. I need to redesign that part fully, it's on my list.

BTW the lower part, and the antenna-ish bits, were all fine. It's the central rod that's just too floppy in that material. A quick and dirty way to go would be to just print it in WSF, cut the parts off the rod and use brass. Some of the upper bits are already available as a separate part in FUD, but I haven't tested it yet.

I suspect for the lower part to work in FUD I may have to beef it up a fair bit, or combine it with the base - as designed it isn't a very strong part. It's like everything, with this technology: a contest between fine-ness, cost and strength/printability. Pick any two!

Can someone tell me what they paid for the 1/700 scale armature acrylic cutting service? I finally got a quote from a local company and I just want to compare prices.

Thanks!

My order at Pololu was a total of $182.45, as follows:

- Center span-1/32 clear acrylic = $30.00
- Center span-1/8 clear acrylic = $77.00
- Stern 1/8 clear acrylic = $45.00
- S & H: $30.45 to Puerto Rico

That's good to hear. My quote was between $160 to $180 Canadian (included parts labor and shipping)

Thanks!

Yeah, I'm getting more pieces uploaded but am leaving most of them private because there's just no point. :( Seems half of them are unprintable at PS, and the rest mostly cost MORE than Shapeways. Early results were misleading. :( :(

I noticed a bunch saying unprintable.

So, are you going to put the parts and materials removed from Shapeways back on? I have a cart full of pieces it now will not let me add back to the cart.

What is with all the resin parts on Pinshape? Are they using some type of quick cure catalytic urethane for printing?

Shapeways says the tower interstage, the observatory drum and the command interior are done. The tower has been "in production" for 6 days. The forward fuel manifold was in production but went back to processing and the tower base has never left processing. Their own estimated due date is tuesday the 18th so we shall see. I'm not ordering anything else until I see these results.

Any idea when the stern deck uppers might be available?

The ones I don't have on SW as yet are either subject to revision, not finished or cheaper at PS. I'll end up dividing the project across both sites; it does look like there will be *some* things that will be better/cheaper via PS.

God alone knows what is with the resin prices at PS. They're terrifying.

I still have SW parts that are in processing or production from orders placed on 6 October...

The stern deck uppers are printable at SW but not PS. I really, really wanted to find out what the PS price might be because the original SW price for the *whole* upper deck (minus antenna boxes) was $78. Now I've had to break it into three parts and the total is what, $300 ish...ouch...

PS if I can't get anywhere with PS this week I'll OK those parts at SW. Need to order a set myself.

??? OK, that is not cool. I would expect explanations or cancellations. Some type of communications are appropriate. I understand stuff happens but after a while I'll let PayPal deal with it.

Well, I just got another box, so that's most of it now. There's two more coming IIRC. Basic stuff this time, I'll post a pic of the box though, because daaaaaang.

SW has been updating designers on a forum thread, and there have been some general emails too. They say as of last night that all of the backlog orders have shipped; I haven't checked but assume mine'll be among them.

Bad news though, they just rejected the 'girders' section of my Palomino. They want it re-modeled with 1mm thick struts. Thicker than WSF. It's nutso. I sprued the hell out of that part.

SW must be through their backlog as they just finished all my parts except for the 3 sets of antenna. They are still refusing to print the tower center antennas but keep telling me to select 'print it anyway' whish is not even an option unless I am the model creator. :/

Apparently Dave must be doing some material testings to both sets...WSF became unavailable for the tower antennas awhile back and now only print in silver (the precious metal!!!)...
