1/2 Studio Scale Refit Enterprise

I have not been able to get the blog complete yet and the movie will have to wait until after the blog.... I've got to spend all day molding new parts, so I thought I would upload some photos of the recent work on this with a slight narrative.

Essentially, I've repaired and, or replaced all of the broken parts, clean up the parts and prepped them for molding, myself and my associate have ordered and recieved the silicone and resin that we needed to move forward, I've got the transfer paper, brass and chemicals for etching detail parts together and ready for etching. I've molded several of the small parts and a couple of the larger parts and purchased some new clay to mix up and layout for the larger parts molds. I've cast up some of the clear parts and have test fit them and will be doing a light test...

That's kind of where it's at...

Here are a few more shots of the parts involved, I'm doing a light test of the impulse chrystal and prepping several of these parts today. I'll get on that blog later today. I've been very carefully cleaning up the impulse deck and rescribing the gridlines, I'll get some better pictures when it's farther along.

Will you be needing any painting templates? (hint, hint)

stunning work!

Thanks no. We have had our own templates directly from the Foundation Imaging files for the DE and from sources inside the community for some time. In fact we were going to put a complete series out for the PL kit back when it first came out, but we shared our files with someone that couldn't keep them to himself and they ended up all ofer the net and we decided it wouldn't be worth it. Thanks for the offer though.

Below are a couple of more detail shots, some of the recent photos were no so hot, so I took these before putting the parts into rubber. The last couple were of Ver 1.0 of the impulse deck.

Amazing as always!

Out of curiousity, what scale does yours work out to?

I am not sure what the original studio one was scaled at or
else I would figure your is half that. Just not sure what "THAT" was. LOL.

Can't wait to see more!

Do you have a price in mind for the kit?

We're thinking a minimum of$2000.00 but we're not quite sure on that just yet. We've put more than five years into this and have more then $5000.00 into it right now, without spending another dime.

The original was eight feet long, given that measurement that makes it about 1:120, since ours is half of that, the scale is 1:240. BTW, Don't tell anyone, but we have a TOS Enterprise in the same scale. Shshshshshh:lol

:loveVery Cool~! I love CG. I'd love to get into this eventually! Keep up the great work!

Thanks Mark. BTW this was made in TurboCad and not the standard CG programs. I'll pass your comment on to my friend though, he'll appreciate it. Trek on!

Just sent out two batches of parts and preping my own for the first build-up. Got some new help on the project, can't wait to get this moving. The broken bridge is just an example of what I got back..... Sent that off to my business partner, so he can see what I've had to deal with Doh!

There are some of the parts that I've photographed that really do not show the level of detail that this model represents, so I wanted to take this time to show some of the CAD parts that were used to produce this vessel. I'm really interested in hearing what you the fans have to say about this level of detail and your concerted oppinion of the detail.

I've been pulling all of the parts of this beast out of the box, to start casting more of the parts and thought I would show some more of what went into it to get it to this point. We had this ship prototyped Dec, more than two and a half years ago. When we finally got it back virtually half of the ship was a broken, warped, shattered mess. Since then I've been reparing all of what was salvagable, correcting the parts that for some reason had been modified, incorrectly I might add.... and working all of the new parts, as well as making molds for each part as finished.

I'm working on the blog as well as movie three and will show more updates on the modling, casting, blog and movie today, as time allows. Thanks for all of the interest in this thread.

Keep on Trekkin! =/\=

Wow I wished my parts looked that good Joe. So clean. So nice.

Steve

Wow. I'm honored, I don't know what to say, but thank you. I sincerely appreciate that and will definately pass it on. There is still much to do, but I'm plugging away at it. As I said, I've pulled everything out to inventory the parts and get back to work on finalizing the ones the need it and to prep others for silicone. I'm going to start popping my own parts and get to work on the prototpe build. We believe we've got just about everything worked out with regards to assembly. We engineered this to be relatively easy to build and purposely avoided some of the issues with some of the mass produced kits. This will not be a kit for beginner modelers, but I think virtually anyone should be able to assmble it. We designed this ship with lighting in mind and with structural support as a keystone to the ship. We hope that this will make up for a museum quality prop when lighted, decaled, detailed and displayed.

As you can see in the photos below, there are still some parts that need attention. Having said that, I think it's getting really close to being 90% done. Several of the parts have been cast and more are going into silicone today, while I work on the last of the details.

I wanted to include a couple of shots of John's mesh as well. When we sent these parts off for prototyping, the MFGR had to drastically reduce the complexity of the meshes. He said that he had never seen a product come in that was this complex. When assembled in the computer the ship as shown measures out at more than 85megs. John built this ship in TurbCAD at full size.

I think that these parts look awesome. You can see that you guys have put a lot of time into making it accurate. Keep up the good work!
