1/144 Star Wars Millennium Falcon (The Force Awakens) plastic model BANDAI

Monsieur Tox have you ever seen insignia white in person? I do and even Steve Dymszo who had access to the original 32" falcon who was commissioned to do the paint master for Deagostini falcon and confirmed that insignia white is the perfect base color.

A 20 is the closest match to the 32" filming model, A20 is not white at all its actually a tan/beige color not sure why they call it insignia white, , I have the MR falcon and the A 20 is a very close match, I removed the radar dish to access the original unweathered base color to confirm match, so YES A 20 is a damn close match trust me.

Here's my MPC Tydirium kit I painted last year, all the darker panels are A20 insignia white, you can clearly see the difference compared the the off white I painted my shuttle, it not white at all but a tan color.

Yeah but I was always concerned that the base for the 32" and the 5 footer are very different , and this model is the 5 footer without doubt

Steve Dymszo's advice for painting a replica of the 32' is probably pretty good:D

But for advice on building or painting any Star Wars model I'd always listen to Monsieur Tox

Yes unfortunatly I know the AS-20 very well, I painted my SS X-Wing with that color before switching to a custom mix.
I also saw the 32" four times in person.

I don't get what Dymszo say for true, I'm sorry but I saw recently a pic of what was one of his repainted MR for DeAgo or the DeAgo model... All the splatters done with a rust wash while they shoudl be gray... He probably used the pics of the SaG book which is ultra satured and color modified.

MR also said they had to do a 50% white- 50% Floquil Grime for their Falcon so the customers got something closer to what was seen in the movies.
However the original base color was straight Grime which is very dark and greenish.

I just received a Floquil Grime color chip from Beaz and this is the exact color I saw when I saw the original model in person.

Also Duncanator who restored the original 32" model, posted pics some days ago of the filming miniature. You can figure the color and how dark it is against the white foam :

So yeah maybe the AS-20 is a close match to the MR Falcon but the MR Falcon is not a close match to the original model.

Sorry I only compare paints to the original ILM models, not to replicas...

The color may work if you want the wash out look it has in the OT, but won't work if you want to replicate the filming minis or the Ep 7 one (the color seems to be less altered in the movie due to it being CG and not a composited miniature).

Right then. No need to replicate the one from ILM so I will try out the AS 20.
Thanks M-tox

This is some fine work your doing here, top job dude.

I was test fitting a 9V battery in my falcon, seems like it will need some trimming to get it in there. I think the battery pack for the lighting module bandai intended for the kit would use 2 AA batteries or possibly 2 AAA.

Where do you plan on running the switch? was that thing you mounted in the front landing gear box a switch? i couldnt make it out from the pic.

Bon appetite.

Thanks :D

I have installed a female dc port under the faclon as seen on the pics and the 9v battery will be in the custom base :thumbsup

So i can plug and unplug the falcon at will and i also can have multiple base with same type of connections :thumbsup

One falcon but multiple diplay :$

Well done on getting stuck in, a question
Any difficulty with the kit so far? What's the plastic like ?
And looking at the kit the extra pipework and details for episode 7 , it looks from the layers of extra items that you can build it without them to get the ANH version , do you think it's possible ?

Eveything is nice and smooth and the plasitc is great :thumbsup

For the piping I will let Jaitea answer your question :D

I actually have a original bottle of grime by Floquil and it is pretty dark, but for a off the shelf color A20 is a very good alternative and not that far off, also your looking at a 30+ model which has drastically changed in tone over the years especially when used under hot filming lights ect....
