1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Well that's all my Falcon needs met for the day, and it's only just begun. :D

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Yeaaahhhh it looks alright I guess

;)

I'm beginning to think I shouldn't have painted them... hmmmmmmm (tilting head to the left and right)

Looks like the best graphic equalizer ever made! :p

I believe the first 4 or 5 were backlit (unless it was just the camera angle). I would have loved to do that - maybe in our next iteration? :)

Very detailed. Subscribed!

Hi M,

Thanks! Lot's more to follow!

- - - Updated - - -

I don't know why i am excited about non-sliding, sliding rockers....but I am!!
Looks "functional"!

Keep it up!

Hi P,

Thanks! I can't tell you how happy I am to be finally past this point. I'm not sure, but I had been putting it off, putting it off, putting, it off... I'm just glad they're done. And yeah... I wish they were functional. I'm looking into it. :)

- - - Updated - - -

Yep, those are sliding rockers in my book...looking better everyday:)

Hey J,

Thank you, my friend! Just need to figure out a good way to attach the rockers... still thinking on that one

lol! The empty space on that panel was getting to me. I had put it off long enough. I was fortunate to have JUST enough material to make the mold and castings... whew... So what's next? HMMMMMM... Seats? Bar lights? Front window? Display stand?

Decisions Decisions...

What about working on some blinky lights? Filling in those extra holes and whatnot... on the other hand, getting the major work done first makes sense. by that reasoning, the front would be the next place to go.

Hey Y,

There is nothing I would rather do than get the lights and sounds working! Man... It's going to be unreal! Whether fortunate or unfortunate, the major work really needs to be completed. I HAVE to get working on the front window - that's going to be a real booger figuring out how everything fits together. But, a "bulk" of the work is done so it's really a matter of what direction I want to/should take:

Front window
Plexiglass
Display stand
Lights / Sounds
Aluminum platforms
Outer skin
Back Wall
New cockpit double-sided door / double-sided door frame
Seats
New instrument panels

Just a few things on the list ;)

Well if we're picking things from the list, vote for "front window" :D

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

That would be a good place to put your red Solo cup...

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

SK, I remember you having issue with the center post continuity. Well, it's been magically fixed :lol

It's nice to see your getting to a point where you can start tackling other aspects of the build. I would love to see how you construct the rear seats.

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Very interesting...

There is a behind the scenes shot from ANH that shows the space where the strut is supposed to be. My thought... they removed it for filming and forgot to add it back in...

I like it with the middle strut. :) And that is what shall happen

Wookiee needs a cup holder. Or maybe Wookiee is the cup holder.

Add cupholders? hmmmm... It could be the 2013 Star Wars Super Duper Special Edition... The Millennium Falcon... the MiniVan of the Galaxy

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Sounds like you guys wont have the only full scale Falcon then, if what they say is correct. I can see Disney's not being as accurate as yours though.

Let's hope, right? ;) I'm not too worried about it. IMO, the Disney version will HAVE to sacrifice details because they will have to deal with such a high volume of guests. The last thing they want is have items stolen, broken, abused, etc. (unless the gate/rope areas off).

I used to live in DC and would visit the Air and Space Museum on a regular basis (especially when SW exhibit was there). The Skylab module was open to the public and it was literally striped of all details and plexiglassed off. We were quickly shuffled through and never really got to look at anything - that's what I envision the Disney exhibit to be. Which to the untrained eye will be exciting enough! And I think the exterior alone will be impressive.

But their's will be finished before ours... ugh...

I remember the skylab! My family would hold up the line because we would-gasp-look at things! In a museum! My brother and I got yelled at in the section of old airplane, because we "didn't have to stop and stare"

people...

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

While checking your list of "Things to do", I noticed that it's becoming shorter by the day! Soooo, do you see that light at the end of the tunnel?
You're right, quite a few challenges were ironed out during the construction and the front window will be the one that separate men from...well, you get my drift. Really eager to see those struts come alive:)

LOL - I couldn't have said it better myself. And besides... you were "just" kids. There is a personality type (whether learned or inherited) that makes people think they are more important than others. While at the GMX show I would place a "Closed" sign on the cockpit door so I could take a break. I was sitting down when I noticed a woman looking at the cockpit. She looked at the sign on the door, then walked around the cockpit, came around to the door again, looked at the sign, looked around and then just opened the door... She got one foot inside and then I scared the pee-pee out of her "... Ma'am? Can I help you with anything?" "...oh, uh, ummm, oh... I uh... no..."

People :)

Hey Joe,

YUP... the list is finally getting shorter... I don't think the window will be too difficult. I have Starkiller's 3D model and I've pretty much figured out how it's all going to work. I think the lighting and the sound will be the biggest (BEST) and most complex piece of the remaining puzzle. But what the heck am I going to do when it's all done!?

With that question proposed... I've been looking at several behind the scenes pics of the canopy / window. The movie version was built as one solid piece - it was NEVER intended to come apart and transported on a regular basis. I'm looking very closely into mod'ing the existing vertical beams to attach differently than the way they are configured now. This will allow me to skin the beams more easily. As I always do, I have to think it through in my head...

The other thing I'm considering is doing ALL the panels over again (but not all at once). Why? The original cockpit had backlit white, blue, yellow and black 1" square plastic "buttons". I used glass mosaic tiles. I REALLY want to backlight these buttons to get the full effect. I did try using the compressed air trick to help pop off the tiles - it did work but it was very labor intesive and I run the risk of ruining the panel... again... I'm thinking it through... :)

Damn!!!!!!! Just gets better and better.

Thank you, Sir! Appreciate the kind words. :)

How's the room coming? Any updates?

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

SK-

When I look at the current pictures of the Pit assembled I'm blown away at how far this project has come. I hope you recognize (and are proud of) how much you've achieved.

I was watching ESB the other night and noticed that there are shadows around the vertical sides of the light panels. Here's an example:

Do you think maybe the panels were attached from the sides?

Also, in case you haven't discovered it, this website has a ton of hi-def screen caps from all the movies: Star Wars Screencaps.com - HQ screencaps of everything in the Star Wars Universe!

Last thought, regarding removing the glass panels -have you thought about hitting the panel from the back with a hammer? It might pop those tiles right off (after all, what's the worse thing that could happen? ;))

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hey Snow,

Thanks so much. I am amazed how far the cockpit has come and even more so by the fact that I was able to pull it off. Of course I am my own worst critic so I immediately see all the flaws....

BUT... I JUST NOTICED! The first pic you posted... they DID use plexiglass in the canopy! Note the reflection of the half round chrome grab handle to the left of Chewie's head. Very Cool!

Chris Lee and I studied the bar lights while at GMX and we came to conclusion that while the bar light acrylic / plex panel appears to be one long piece, the vertical shadows might have been added for nothing more than visual interest - we don't see a break in the plexi panel at all. Also, it could have been a way to mount the panel to the light bar housing.

We came up with the idea that the original designers might have cut thin strips of the clear plexi / acrylic and then layered them on the very edges of the panel - similar to a sandwhich - this added depth. The designers could then mount the panel to the edges of the housing. This added depth would allow light to show through to the very edges. Also, the ANH version has a black pin stripe on it as well - which I personally like and might include.

LOL... let's see... Hammer, 1/4" MDF... hitting the back of the panel... I don't see any issues. The cold compressed are works fairly well but I have to be VERY careful not to accidently dig into the panel when trying to pop off the tiles. I really want to use the 3mm plastic tiles and back light them. It will make such a difference. So I might take it slow and remove the tiles panel by panel instead of remaking each panel...

This is what the 3mm plastic squares look like when back lit

You can see why I want to do it! :)
