1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Thanks - but was only in with the wife for an hour for a midwife appointment.
Second one due in 5 weeks!

I hope that the manufacturer can connect you with their part suppliers.
I've been keeping an eye out for those lights for ages. :)

Hi L,

CONGRATS! Hope the checkup was a positive one. :)

I've been in contact with Chris from Briston Maid and he says the cabinet has been discontinued. I'm hoping the panel light was contracted out to another company and not solely kept in-house. He's looking into it now...

Fingers crossed! We're SO CLOSE! lol

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Yep all fine-thanks
Really hope you find a big box of cheap little lights soon!

crossing the fingers as well....great find....all the best to you, laszlo ....I am sure these lamps will fit some other SW-props as well ;-)

Uncross your fingers... bad news... Bristol Maids discontinued that particular medical cabinet - thus no more panel light. I was hoping Chris (customer rep) might know if the panel lights were contracted out - he didn't know...

We are SO close... Someone has to know something... :)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

That is bad news :(
I'm sure they would not have manufactured those lights themselves - definitely bought in from somewhere. Somebody at Bristol Maid I'm sure would be able to find out who has been supplying them the light fittings for their cabinets. Their current contractor might be able to point you in the right direction, even if they don't carry that part anymore. Good luck!

Those are my thoughts. Somebody HAS to know where these lights are. Just going to have to dig even further...

If you're there again anytime soon, see if you can take a pic of the backside of the panel - there just might be a manufacurer name associated with the light? :) Just a thought...

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

As you all know, I pour over Starkiller's 3D model along with as many original production images/screen grabs as I can find trying to accurately represent the cockpit (admittingly making minor changes). After looking at the front window arch (knowing that cosmetic surgery is necessary) and the vertical nose side panels I'm beginning to wonder if I should redesign the nose side panels to match the original prop - carefully cutting them down and creating the actual nose cone shape. This will ensure the lower part of the front window (which is paneling / not a window) fits together perfectly...

Note how the original prop's nose comes to a cone shape as opposed to my side panels going straight down...

I'm merely thinking outloud but I would definately like your feedback / guidance. The last thing I want is to create the cockpit from the SW Holiday Special! ;)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

The light is on a lockable drugs cabinet - I'm assuming that the red light is there so that it begins flashing if anyone tampers with it!
I could ask the midwife's kindly ;) - I'm there weekly at the moment.

That would be fantastic! I'm sure you'll get the same look I get when people see what I have in my garage - but it's for a good cause, right?

Let's hope there's some kind of identification on those reflector lights!

I do appreciate the effort!

You're talking MAJOR surgery here but I think since you're trying to achieve the exact look of the original set piece that you should do it.

I agree. I'm fairly secure in my skills enough to cut the existing side panels without damaging them - I just have to make sure I do it right the VERY first time. I don't think I will do it before the GMX show especially with the amount of work I still have to do / continue to put off (new instrument panels, display stand, throttle housing, backside wall/entrance, etc). Also, creating a new front nose will require a completely new console platform. So I will probably hold off until after GMX...

Again... this is all thinking out loud... :)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

I'd say it would be worth doing the adjustments to those front side walls sooner rather than later, especially since you have been looking at slightly altering the shape of the top frame of the front window. I'd do the two changes at the same time then you can make sure they work together.
On another note, as temporary "glass" for the window you could use clear acetate sheets like these:
3 Sheets of A1 Poster Covering Acetate Clear Film 440mc | eBay
I'm just thinking it would give it a nice closed in feeling.
That's assuming they would be big enough.. how big is the biggest window?

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

I thought of something cool, but not something you should do. It's only meant to explain why you have a Falcon cockpit and nothing else. My idea would be to damage it; create twisted, broken metal sections; broken glass canopy; broken panels and exposed wires; and heavy charring all over the place. Maybe even some blood spattered hither and thither.
Again, not something I think you should do. It would just be a cool way to fancifully explain the presence of only a cockpit.

Hi C,

Either way the window arch MUST be changed in order for the window channels to line up (I don't think the change will be that noticable). Again, this is NO WAY a reflection on Starkiller's 3D work, it's just one of those oversights on my part by using stock material (wood) and not cutting them to the "exact" width or length (I never thought I would have built the entire cockpit).

The bottom of the window arch is actually the center line of the "half circle" - that's where the panel alignment between the nose side panels and the front window panels becomes sketchy. I was sitting in the garage last night taking measurements and looking at different angles and I think it's still doable as is but I definately want to stay true to the original look and feel.

If I started the changes now, I don't think I would be finished before the GMX show and I don't want to put any undo pressure on myself - better to do it right than rush it... I still have lots to do on the canopy and I really want to try to get the display stand started/finished.

I think the biggest window is the very top center window on the canopy - I would guess the size to be 2X4'??? Maybe????? Now that I've added the window channels (which were originally going to be paint) I definately want to add some plexi! :)

Hey Red,

That does sound very cool! All dented up, with lights flickering, tilted to one side... That would be a lot of fun! Another idea I had (which is one I had since I was a kid) was turning the cockpit into its own shuttle/escape pod. Build a metal frame with 3 point landing gear, small boarding ramp in the back - 4 little engines that circle the main round body and then skin the beast!

Hey C,

I love those behind the scenes images. I was looking closly and I noticed how thick the wood is where the bar lights are located. I'm wondering if we used the same material... I might have to get a piece of "frosted" plexi and do a backlight test... hmmmmm ;)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

I can see what you're saying about the wood blocks you have in place where the bar lights go, where the boards might block out some of the light along the top and bottom edges. I was thinking... Can you trim the edges of the wood blocks back a ways (where the bar lights would go), trimming them almost, but not quite, to the bolts? That would allow more room for light to pass through, and still leave enough wood to make the rest of the structure safe & sound, wouldn't it? << depending on how the backlight test goes.
