1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

One Word: Asparagus

I never eat stuffing though. Whatever's in the turkey that's stinking up the bathroom has to be in the turkey while it was alive, or it's coming from the marinade. It can't be the gravy either, because I don't eat gravy.

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Cant express how I enjoy the last images. Its like be there in the very beginning in the sets of the original star wars and relive the whole thing. Sofaking you made the time travel possible and respark all the memories and experiences in the vividest way possible. Keep it up man.

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hold on, let's see if I can remember how Steve Starkiller's build went...

You should build a mandible so that you can see what Han would have seen from the cockpit!

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

Nearly every aspect of this build has been a challenge. I've NEVER done anything like this before in all my 44 (cough cough) years of life. There have many parts that I had/have been dreading... And even more so when I take a total shot in the dark... The canopy is NO exception. So... taking the measurements from Starkiller I just plowed ahead... and...

The first thing I did was cut the horizontal canopy supports to length then cut each side - the support at the front is narrower than the rear... I then removed the front window from the frame, found the measurements / spacing and did the same thing to the back arch and then just started cutting

The four areas cut

They simply slipped into place

The Money Shot

NOTE: This is NOT their final resting place. The supports are supposed to be flush with both the front and rear arch bottoms.

More to Follow! I can't believe the hard part is over!

Cor, I hope the chocks are 'not' away - the neighbours would get the shock of their lives ...and in 3D.

Great work on completing the canon, really does look the part!

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

That view through the cockpit windows looks stellar, and familiar. That's the view I see every day, lookin across my front yard. My neighbor's house looks so very un-space-like.

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Looks great! Have you thought about putting scorch marks around the end of each barrel? (I'd assume they get pretty hot from use). You could also spray paint the inside of the barrel either metallic or black to better hide the "PVC-nature" of its construction.

Per your suggestion... :)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

Last of the updates for this evening...

As you can see, the horizontal canopy supports are actually flush with the bottom of the window arch (UPDATE: They are actually 1/8 an inch from the bottom - I can readjust by adding a piece of MDF to the brace - no biggie). I created a brace that rests on the side of the window - I'll then create a mount for the supports to attach

Looking across the front window

I then have to do the same for the rear arch

This is the part I'm really looking forward to! Detailing / skinning the support bars!

More Tomorrow!

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

How many different ways are there to say "freakin' awesome"? I could never build something like this, I'd just sit in the cockpit all day saying "pew pew" as my life frittered away...

The quad looks fantastic, excellent execution on the idea (great minds thinking alike and all that ;) )

Can't wait to see the next post.

You know the word "stellar" means "starlike" or "having to do with stars"?

IMG_20130402_025624.JPGUnreal! What will you do about the seats?scratch build?
Also are you not going to backlight the lightbars? It seems it would
be a simple task with your talents.

Stunning. I'm so happy that you found inside yourself the talent to pull this off. The finished Quad Gun should help folks visualize just how amazing both your cockpit and the eventual full sized Falcon are going to be.

I keep flipping back a few pages on this thread to see what you built the Quad out of and then to look at it finished is so impressive. These aren't rare items, and yet you combined them into something truly amazing!

Thank you, Sir! Don't think for ONE SEC I don't sit and make all the noises or worse (or better) run through the movie dialogue... But that's all part of the fun. :)

Absolutely beautiful work my friend. Great job!

Thank you! You guys have been awesome through this whole build!

Hi F,

Since I've run out of time and the cockpit will be on display at the Nashville Science Center for the next month or so... I'm not really sure what direction the cockpit will take. The goal was to illuminate everything - make it a spot of replica of the original. We'll have to wait and see :)

Hi R,

Thank you very much. I'm surprised I had it in me - I never thought I would have got this far let alone be almost a year and half into this and still be excited! I HOPE the Full Scale Falcon gets built. I can't imagine, at this point, anybody not wanting to be part of the project and see it finished.

Thanks again for the kind words. I'm "hoping" for some real updates today!

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

I am marching forward trying to get those canopy beams finished. While I wait for the primer/filler to dry...

I WISH I could have finished the quad tips... What a difference these make

There was a lot of work still to do to make these pieces

What a difference

I've begun to reinforce the front arch

I've been waiting for those quad tips too... Takes it to YET ANOTHER level :eek

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

So you're going to be taking a break from this brilliant project for a month?

What will I do with my time?

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

I removed these parts of the back arch
20130916_123427_zps8101b019.jpg

20130916_123438_zpsacb3a09d.jpg

I then added the lip to the opposite end of the canopy beam - these slide into the areas I removed from the back arch

I then skinned one side and made sure ALL the measurements were correct

BINGO!

Then added the supports...

Skin the other side... trim the excess... and do it 3 more times...

Stay Tuned!
