Unfortunately, I won't be able to get to the bulk of the canopy. I want to at least have the 4 beams in place before the show...

More to Come!

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Every time I look at this thread it simply gets more and more amazing! The shots of the cockpit send chills down my spine. Absolutely stunning job. It is amazing what your perseverance and dedication (not to mention talent) have created. Good luck at the show.

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

I am sprinting toward the finish...

I created the spacer for the beams so they are slightly elevated from the window arch

Had a slight misstep... I pressed a little hard when nailing the braids and the wood split - my fault - I didn't work with the grain

After applying filler to all four beams I was only able to sand 3 - the 4th hadn't dried yet

Nice and smooth - I still need to add some filler to the sides to take care of all the braid holes

Hi Heath,

Thank you very much! Every now and then I get the same feeling - I have to stand back and really take it in. It's to the point where I open the garage door to go to work and it's more in the way than anything else. LOL

Thanks again, I'm going to try something these next few days... keep fingers crossed

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Haha, that's a wrap then...done! :D

Small update on the electronics.

I was able to get most of the slider door lights finished. I just need to go to the local sign shop and get some smoke plexiglass and build the housing. My light flash program I use for the carbonite panel will need to be modified a bit, to be a more accurate flash pattern. Hope to ship it off the SK soon.

I also did a mock up test panel for the radar scope. This is the ANH version. I used two clear plexiglass panels etched the graphics on them using a bead blaster and edge lit them with green and red LED's. Not terribly accurate but, I was just testing the effect. It turned out fairly well. I think the panel glows red a bit to much but on the full scale version the panels will be wider and the LED's will be further away from the center. Looks promising anyway.

Hi Gang,

I'm using this image as reference for the canopy details and greeblies...

Shadow of Reflection: Movie Screencaps R-S: Click image to close this window

I'm going to paint the beams this evening (despite not being entirely finished). Starkillers 3D model shows two different colors separated by the black line (I assume is the window) - which are the same colors as the cockpit. I think the overall appearance will make the canopy POP!

Original ANH version - kinda dull in comparison. And NOTE the missing vertical support beam on the front window :)

Can't wait to get home!

EDIT: I'm going to try to find some "Dice" to hang from the top panel - I think fuzzy dice might be a little overboard - but it would all in good fun.

Very cool effect DC...The LED edge lighting should work really well at full size. As I was looking at your pics, I had an idea that I thought I would throw your way.

I see that you said you used two pieces of acrylic, but it appears that you sandwiched them together...What if you etched part of the design on one piece, the other "box" portion on another piece, and then put a two-three inch gap between the sheets? Once they were lit, it would give the whole thing a little more viewable "depth" in the display. Depending on the angle that you are looking at it, it would change slightly because of the parallax effect.

This may have been your plan all along, so if it is please disregard my rambling...Your great work just sparked some things in my noggin that I thought I would share. ;)

Great work!

Jason

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

I have a question: Does anybody know the mathematical equation or "process" it takes to correctly measure and cut the material so I can "skin" both the "top" and "bottom" of the window arch? If it were a simple arch there would be no issue but since there is a beveled edge - I just don't know how to properly cut/align/measure...

Thanks Jason, love to hear thoughts on this. I like the dimensional idea. I just don't know if I can put that much distance between the two plate. My idea is to have these plate removable. I am going to make the ESB version also for SK. He will be able to take out the two ANH plates and replace them with the red opaque plexiglass panel.

I would like to leave all the plates in, so SK can just turn off the lights to the ANH panel when he want the ESB look....but, I am not sure how the ANH coloring will look right behind the transparent red panel :wacko follow me? The plexiglass plates I used are 1/8 thick so the etchings can be a 1/4 apart from each other with being sandwiched together. There will have to be some gaping between the plates though. I will have to cross all those bridges when I get closer and see what works. As of writing this I already have some different ideas :lol

I will get the red and smoke tinted plexiglass panels soon, so I can play a little more with it. You did give me a good idea on this though. Stay tuned!

Looking great! I'm no math expert either, but I think the simplest solution to skinning the beveled edge would be to make a template out of poster board or even Christmas wrapping paper.
Count on making two halves.
Start in the middle and let the paper follow the contour.
Staple it LIGHTLY every few inches.
Once it is covered, go back from underneath and use a sharp blade to trim the edge.
The end result "should" be a nice curved template.
Make sense??

I'm knocking myself in the head... That makes all the sense in the world! THANK YOU! I have some scrap foam core and a roll of painters paper lying around - I can use that! Thank You!

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

Well... I painted a lot of the cockpit edges to include the beams. When that dries I'm going to add the lighter color - probably tomorrow.

Beams painted

I sanded down the window arch, trimmed a lot of the excess inner supports and then painted to match

Hi Gang,

If you know me by now... I can't just sit for a few hours and do nothing...
