1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

I'll be helping Mr. SofaKing out with some electronics for the Falcon as my time permits. SK and I have chatted quite a bit about these parts, so with his permission and good graces, I will be fabbing the rear door flashing lights and the round "radar" dodad on the rear wall. I've always wanted to make these...SK just gave me a reason to do so :) and what better reason than to help him out with this completely awesome build! I'll be popping in here form time to time to show the progress :D

I'm going to start with the rear door lights which, I believe they are the same seven segment high voltage displays used on the carbonite block and snow speeder cockpit display. As some of you know, I already fabricate the hero panel electronics for the Han In Carbonite hero panel. It will be pretty simple to make the rear door lights using what I already make.

A good enhanced shot of what the part looks like.

This is my mock up using a couple of original Valvo high voltage displays to scale off from. There is something behind the smoke plexiglass that reflects light as you will see in the next picture so I added some circuits on the bottom. This will be covered with a smoke plexiglass cover with the metal panel on the top side.

Explosion shots show great detail you never would see normally.

Here is an enhanced collage I put together of the radar fixture. After trying to figure out the lighting for this part I came to the conclusion that all the lights I thought were on the inside, except for the spinning one in the center, are just reflections of the cockpit lights. I still may just take some liberties here and make some internal lighting. I will be doing both ANH and ESB configuration. SF will be able to change it out when he wants.

More great Falcon stuff, all in one day, nice one Darth Chromer!

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

I finished up the weathering on the quad minus the barrel tips and hoses - they need a little more light color paint. I am REALLY happy with how the weathering turned out. I almost feel like I can reach out and touch the MF! That's mostly how I feel... mostly... ;)

I also added a few more stripes to the quad to help fill in some blank areas...

I created a simple template

Then painted...

I felt this filled in the area - the light paint should even out

I added the stripes to the support arm cover tubes

And one side of the top elbows

I really think the second layer of weathering did the trick!

Added more hydraulic fluid

That looks flipping amazing!!!!!

How did you weather the stripes after you painted them, sandpaper or?

This thing looks real!!
Amazing!!Add one new hose or bolt. Make it look like a part that's been newly replaced:)
It would make sense with a gun that's been beat up and used so much IMHO.

Love this build, long time watcher, first time poster.

darthchromer, I have a great photo of the nav computer from a page in the Millennium Falcon Haynes manual. I hesitate to post an image that doesn't belong to me here, but would it be of use to you?

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

I added a few more darker streaks and splatters... :)

I'm really excited to have DC involved and even more so to see the final product! It will be an absolute pleasure to incorporate this into the build - they may be baby steps, but each element added is one step closer. Being the complete empty head when it comes to electronics, it'll be nice to have pro on the job! :)

Hey DC,

Thanks! The stripes were a combination of lightly sanding and then adding the original light grey color over top - and then of course lots of weathering. I should have taken a more simple approach like I did with the follow up stripes I added - don't make the stripes a solid color - leave empty areas to give the impression of natural wear and tear. Hope this made sense

Hi F,

WOW... thank you so much! I do have to add two screws so I will leave those all clean. But I was considering added a few extra panels to the side and maybe the top that were more more cleaner than the rest - with your exact idea in mind. I have ALOT to do these next 3 days...

Looks great. Very nice job on the weathering.

Thank You, Sir. It was alot easier than I expected and a HECK of alot of fun :)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

Well... I am mapping out what needs to be done vs what can be done. This is the list of priority tasks for the next 3 days:

Canopy / Frame - This is a MUST but not sure how realistic
Misc Panel Trimming and Painting (clean up the edges) - this is a MUST
Throttle Housing - This is a MUST
Console Instrument Panels (painted, pin striped, buttons, etc)
Chewie Slider Knob/Vertical Gauge Panel - cast new slider base (cut holes to allow vertical gauge backlight) - MAYBE
Padding Around Cockpit Door - this is a MUST (I might created these with Foam Core and then Paint)
Front Window - This is a HUGE MAYBE
Cockpit Door Stopper - Not sure how or where - lol
Cockpit door greeblies

Countdown begins in 4.5 hours!

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

That gun is just beautiful. You say this is your first weathering job?

I don't believe you.

PS: maybe some aurebesh on the gun/cockpit somewhere

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

I would politely caution you against going crazy with the Aurebesh. In ANH, it's seen only once, IIRC.

If you do want to add more graphic detailing, try using more simple geometric shapes, like on the X-wing cockpit controls.
