Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

I really love this project.

I just completed my TARDIS console and I have some leftover switches I'd be happy to donate.

I have 13 black plastic toggle switches. I have a lot of other leftover switches, but none of the others really fit the Millennium Falcon design. I've attached a picture of the style of switch, sorry there aren't more. If you're interested Private Message me.

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

Well... the weather FINALLY broke and I rushed out and finished the upper instrument panel. I'm just waiting for the filler to dry and then comes sanding!

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

A few more updates...

I created a recessed back panel that will fit behind the opening in the door. I simply cut some MDF strips, cut to length, created a border then adhered it to the edge of the piece cut from the door overlay. There was no real measuring involved since it was going behind the door

Panel placed behind door - this will enable me to add a lot of greeblies with the added extra depth

You can see the shadow in between the panel and the door opening

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

When I log into the RPF the first thing I do is search out this thread. I love this build and now that you are starting to 3D print those hard to find parts it just keeps getting better. Keep it up. :thumbsup

Hi D,

Thanks for the kind words. Those 3D prints have made ALL the difference in the world! I can only imagine how they will impact any and all hobbies! Kudos to Wavey and Starkiller for their ability to identify and then build a the 3D model... Stay Tuned for More!

Hi Schuey,

Thanks so much! I really have to step up my game. The upcoming Maker's Fair in Sept is pushing me to get more done - if funds allow it of course... :)

Lookin amazing

Thank you, Sir. Plugging in the lights and turning them on once again reminded me why I was doing this project in the first place - insanity! ;)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

This is my first post, but I can't contain myself any longer. This build, combined with Starkillers CG model that inspired it, is possibly the most impressive thing I have ever seen on the internet. Outstanding stuff gents!

Hi Evil Imp,

Thank you for the very kind words and your taking the time to trod through all the posts. ;) Starkiller did (and continues to do) an amazing job on his 3D model... Everything has come together perfectly (when I take accurate measurements of course). I've been looking over "The Star Wars Sketchbook" and saw Joe Johnston's original concept sketches of the cockpit - that would be a fun project! :) Thanks again for the kind words and stay tuned for more updates!

YES YES YES! I'll forward a PM :)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Looks GREAT with all the lights on!

Thanks, DJ! The lights just bring everything to life. :) Starkiller and I are slowly working on a more accurate panel light along with my hope/desire to backlight all the 1" tiles - a HUGE undertaking IF I'm able to successfully remove ALL the glass tiles without ruining the panel surface!

As always, great work.

Hey Hey! Thanks much! As I mentioned, I really need to step up if I'm going to have something presentable for the Maker's Fair... I'm debating whether to either paint the backsides of all the panels black or just cover with a black, grey, or white sheet. Or... if I had my way - finished off the cockpit with the outer skin! ;)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Really fantastic work here! I'm attempting a 1:1 cockpit of my own at the moment (in the ALIEN/Aliens universe), so seeing your progress has been really inspiring. I really respect your dedication to getting it just right and I hope to someday have the chance to see it in person!

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

I saw the console lit up and I can't stop smiling! :D :D :D This blows me away every time I check it out! :thumbsup :cool Thanks for the giddiness SofaKing! (giddiness is highly under rated IMO :D )

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

So, I have to ask...
If this is the cockpit that'll be attached to the full sized Falcon, with guests visiting, walking aboard and likely sitting in the seats...
Where are you going to build in metal? the cockpit floors at least seem like they would need to be steel diamond plate or something.

Just reading that, I instantaneously started getting stressed out imagining little kids cranking on the throttles and toggles, smashing buttons and climbing on the console. AND IT'S NOT EVEN MY PROJECT :lol

This is EXACTLY how I would have hyperactive kids taken to see this beauty....

Hi B,

This cockpit is NOT the final version... This cockpit is for promo and photo use only. It was decided very early on that in order to promote the build we needed something "Big" to have on display at different Shows, Cons and Fairs. What better way to promote the build than a full scale replica cockpit. The final version will look exactly the same (ESB version), but will use much lighter and more durable material - still unknown and being discussed.

Hope this helps :)

LOL! Now that's funny! :)

Fortunately, I've already had several kids already play in cockpit and she's held up pretty well. Granted they weren't running around, jumping up and down, etc... They were more in awe of everything so that seemed to help with their flipping the switches and pulling on the throttles, etc...

I think it will evetually succumb to normal wear and tear but that's expected - heck... nothing lasts forever, right? :) But the real joy comes from people getting to experience it, touch everything, and watching the expressions on their faces... Because "I" know they're playing out their favorite scenes in their heads - just like I've done a billion times! LOL
