AL huh? Not too far from Illinois. I've always wanted to see Alabama, now I have a reason to! Keep up the good work guys, this is epic and I'm very jealous. I wanted to turn my movie room / family room in like Palpatines office or the Jedi Council Chamber and get the Courscant skyline printed onto wallpaper, so that when you were down there it felt like a completely different world. Once the build is done you'll have to get some projectors and screens and set them on the outside facing in, or turn the windows into monitors so you can simulate hyperspace or a space battle. Then charge admission!
I've had the exact same thought; perhaps the fact it's not flying in space could be the reason why the sunlight engines glow much less than we are used to. Then again, the glow in the OT has always been there, even when it was flying over planet surfaces. Is it just me, or do the Falcon's engines look better in yesteryear's movies when it was just a solid hot blue-white strip with hazy edges, as opposed to the newer, not-so-bright super-detailed engine seen in the teaser? Or, is it just because she's flying slow and low that it's not so fired-up and bright?

They always say (in the expanded stuff, yes, so take that for what it is) that the sublight engines are for upper atmospherice flight, not in-atmosphere. Maybe they're thinking that? Other possible explanation would be the fact that she isn't needing the acceleration that you see whenever she's been in atmo before. (OK, Bespin doesn't fit that one) I can make up more...
Either way, she looks gorgeous in aerobatic mode
OK, prepare for a collective eye-roll here
According to the Haynes Manual (I love that there's a Haynes Manual for the YT-1300 series),
"...[sublight drives or engines] provide more energy output that repulsorlift engines, and are almost always engaged upon leaving a planet's atmosphere"
(Windham, Reiff and Trevas)
