1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Per StarWars7News.com website... Gary Kurtz was "invited by JJ Abrams to the Pinewood set of The Force Awakens! Kurtz praised Abrams for going “retro” with the look of the movie and the use of practical effects, elaborating on his feeling of nostalgia whilst visiting the Millennium Falcon set. He was impressed by the level of detail that was put into its construction, far more than the original set pieces! "

I like the taller shelf pieces. Should make it easier to get into for us long legged guys.

Hey TX,

Believe it or not... the new panels are actually shorter than the older panels - they just have a steeper angle. When the shelf and lightbar is added they will wind up being the same. All the added height will come from the new platform and risers.

I'm going to try for a major push this weekend... fingers crossed!

Glad to see the update Sofa...it's so nice to see this project going further and being improved every step of the way:cool

Thank you for those little details. It adds richness to the end product for those following along, and makes the build that much more interesting.

I've introduced this project to some of Japanese SW fans.
They extremely excited for this ambitious project for its scales and detail.
Kind of project we can't even imagine here in Japan!

Hi Gang,

A teeny tiny early morning update.... Finished mod'ing one of the lower back panels. Tonight will be the other panel and then hopefully the shelf...

New panel in place. I wound up having to remove approx 3" off the outer side. This moved the sides panel in toward the center

Once again, these panel will sit on an additional 12" of platform/risers... Hope it all fits in the garage!

Hey Hey!

Thanks... the updates have been a little slow. But it always feels good to get out there and build. I really enjoy seeing any type of forward progress :)

Hi K,

WOW! Thanks for sharing the project with the fans! Hope we're making the folks happy and meeting their expectations! We'll make sure to save a spot in the captains chair when you get a chance to come visit! :)

Hi S,

Thanks! Once the shelf and new lower light bars are in place, it will begin to make more sense. Daniel, another team member will be starting the new metal platform soon. That is going to be epic!

Hi Gang,

Another early morning update. After a day of renovating, Jessie and I got started on rebuilding the canopy beams. We're removing the MDF panels that created the window channel. Everything will be smooth down and recovered with 1/8" ply and repainted to match.

After - We still have several beams to go but we're bouncing back and forth between several little projects... whew...

While I was removing the MDF Jessie is working on 3 relays that are mounted to the beams

We cut part of the shelf but it was too dark to continue - better safe than sorry - this is 1 of 3 shelves to be cut

More to follow so stay tuned!

Hi Gang,

Updates! It was a long day of removing MDF from the canopy beams. Some filler was added and some sanding done. The beams are being mod'd to make it a little easier for both transport and putting it together/tear down. But the best part... We Have a Shelf!

Still have to cut the other side shelf, then a few more design cuts, bevel the edges, fill, sand (lots of sanding) adhere the two sides together, paint then mount. Then it's on to the light bars!

Stay Tuned!

Mate, with all the work You've done modifyin/rebuilding/adjusting/repainting the amount of time You spent was worth making a Real metal one IMHO! :D
Maybe a full 1:1 Flying Falcon LOLLLL!!!!:lol:lol:lol
In that case Youìll definitely need a bigger garage!!:D

Alberto

You make it sound so easy! It'll be finished by tomorrow, by the sounds of it!

LOL All the rework has been crazy... but necessary! I think you're right. Just think how much further we would be if we did it right the first time. ;)
