1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

What do you mean "unfortunate"? From what I recall, it was a good time...

Hi Y,

Before actually going, I was told by many folks the ride was an exact replica of the MF cockpit - some even thought it might have been the original set that was slightly mod'd for that particular attraction. I was PUMPED!!! You can only imagine my disappointment when I saw it...

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

I posted this on Starkiller's 3D MF Cockpit Build as well...

I just noticed something... There is a HUGE disrcepancy between the full scale canopy, the model canopy and the cockpit prop canopy. There is no vertical canopy "bar" extending up from the very center window to the front outer window ring on the cockpit prop, but the bar is present on the other two... Very odd...

Without Vertical Bar - looking out from interior

With Vertical Bar - Full Scale

With Vertical Bar - Model

But on this version from the interior... it's back again

The way I look at it? One less thing I have to do! :)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

After some googling, I see what you mean. If you went in there expecting something of the caliber what you are doing here, what there actually was would be quite disappointing.

Myself, I would add the vertical bar, just to stay true to the generally accepted image in everyone's mind of how the falcon windows look from the outside. The set for TESB corrected that glaring omission. Just depends on if you want "ship accurate", or "early set with error accurate". lol

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Perhaps make it removeable? I suspect when they were shooting into the cockpit it would be a bit of an obstacle.

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

The presence of the bar looks to be more prevalent in the practical set piece than without it. I would vote to include it.

Incredible job on this project!! This thread is a great read!! Keep up the amazing work!

Yeah... I went into the "attraction" with such high hopes after hearing so much hype... it was a real let down. But now i have my own! :) lol

Agreed. I'd add the bar, but I imagine most people wouldn't notice either way.

Hi Gang,

Thanks for all the feedback. I'm going to attempt the "optional" route. Everybody likes having an option, right? :)

It looks like a LONG weekend of rain so there won't be much going on with the build. But I am doing a LOT of behind the scenes sketches of the canopy build, how I'm going to skin the beast, framing, platform, etc... Lot's of good stuff - but just all on paper...

Stay Tuned!

Totally agree man, seeing that display next to yours just doesn't compare!

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

In the book Star Wars: The Blueprints J.W. Rinzler mentions the stage prop was built with the vertical bar, but it blocked some of the actors faces so George Lucas had it removed.

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

In between downpours (it rained all weekend) I was able to get the wood and casters necessary to build the platform. Having the casters will really make a difference. I didn't think pics were really necessary... I'm hoping to get something done this week. There are a lot of projects lining up as well: New console panels, platform, door, canopy and canopy frame, throttle housing, greeblies, greeblies, greeblies...

That makes perfect sense for filming "into" the cockpit... but I would think he would have left it on for filming from behind looking "out" of the cockpit? Maybe an oversight?

Thank you, my friend! :)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

UPDATES!!!!

Hi Gang,

Well... I started the platform. So far so good! The panels are not attached. I was just making sure everything lined up. :)

I hope to have the platform skinned and the nose platform at least framed this week! :)

This entire thread is pretty amazing, and definitely inspirational, if I may say so. I'd have to lose the girlfriend before she'd let me put that in the garage.

Hi L,

Thanks for the kind words... That really means a lot. I'm hoping to have the "Nose" frame done this afternoon... And it's always been my experience that when it comes to women... it's always easier to ask for forgivness than it is permission... of course... that would explain why I'm still single... ;)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Great news gang... the weather is calling for rain off and on for the next 5 days with a 70% on the weekend... UGH...

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

We just had the rain, now we are getting temps in the 40's. IT WAS 90 DEGREES TWO DAYS AGO!!! Ok I'm done venting now. All the work you have done is excellent top notch, and If you're not Careful ASavage might try to "borrow" it for his man cave :lol

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Looking forward to the completed set. Now just to attached the hyperdrive to be able to move it to comic-con for a display.

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang... It has been raining for the last 3 days... UGH... But I was able to get this done! :)

The platform is on casters - makes it really easy to move

With a solid base this will be MUCH easier to get accurate measurements for the canopy and front window. Next is the platform for the console and those dreaded side panels...

More to Come!

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Great progress! I still love that you didn't label panels left and right, but instead Han and Chew :lol
