1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Ok so if we're going by 70s prices how many quarters do I need and how long does it run for ^_^

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

That is is awesome!!:thumbsup That would a magical experience for me at 40, I can only imagine how cool it would be at 8! :D
Hey Hey BD,

Funny you mention that... New neighbors just moved in and he brought over his nephew (8 yrs old) and intruduced himself. Unfortunately my phone was charging but the little guy was in AWE... he was carefully flipping switches, working the throttles, etc... I could hear the faint sound of laser blasts and engine noises - it was AWESOME! I really wish I had the camera but I didn't want to break his concentration. :)

GREAT NEWS on the Taxi! Where are you on the planning stages? :)

Wouldn't that be awesome?! :) I'm surprised no one has called shotgun?????

Arrrg! Michael beat me to shotgun! I'd gladly sit in Obi's spot ;)

Congrats on finishing the pinstripes, its downhill from here:cool.

Taxi: We were planning on buying a crew cab truck this summer to haul a 40' camper. I brought up the idea of converting the interior of the camper into a Korben apt style, but since we will be living in it for a year I was over ruled:(. I switched to the idea of turning the inside of the truck into Korben's Taxi and both my wife and daughter were on board with it :D:thumbsup
Now I'm thinking of doing the exterior as well, so I'm looking at body styles (ford or dodge) that lend themselves to the "look". After we move it will be a logging truck for firewood so it will get the "Korben" treatment from me (I drive off-road the way he flies :lol) I'll be starting a thread when we buy our truck ;)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Forget the quarters and bring a credit card.

But no 3rd party out of state checks... I have to draw the line somewhere... ;)

Still one spot left! :)

Sounds great about the taxi! I'm really looking forward to seeing this build. I'm sure you already have LOTS of images but I did find this. Hope this helps narrow down your search...

When I first saw Star Wars I was 8 years old. I was in complete heaven! My parents were sitting next to me and they said I never moved during the whole movie and my mouth was wide open... The expression on the little guys face seeing the cockpit was the same look I had. It was really cool!

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

So that means Sofaking is Han, I'm Chewie, Bigdaddy is Obiwan, and Yodamann is Luke.

I've got a bad feeling about this... :lol

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Now we just need a C-3P0 and an R2-D2 and we're set!

And a Leia too maybe...

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi A,

Those are definately helpful! I also need to find out what material they used to mount the seats. I'm leaning toward a thick steel pipe end? Anybody have any ideas?

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hey Gang... I JUST realized something... unless I plan to create the extension panels from the ESB version... I think I'm done with all the pin striping!

I spoke a little too soon... As I mentioned earlier, I am rebuilding/redesigning the upper and lower center console panels to accomodate the new panel lights Starkiller 3D printed and other misc greeblies - switches, buttons, etc. I will be using 1/8 inch MDF for the panels instead of the 3/4 inch ply I originally used...

SO... I do have a little more pinstriping to do... :)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

I would say a steel pipe for the mount looking at the set picture:

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

Some quick updates! While I'm helping a friend paint her table I'm slowly working on the 3D printed greeblies... I decided to paint some switches gloss black and then paint with chrome paint to see how well that worked. If it works, I'll paint the panel light bezels the same way. I also painted the throttle greeblies with a metallic paint - they are VERY porous! Stay Tuned!

Throttle Greeblies

I went ahead and painted the bezels high gloss black

The gloss black undercoat really makes it pop!

Throttle greeblies in place - I'm definitely going to rebuild the throttle housing

Tough to see - but the 3D prints are really porous...

I was hoping to use these on the throttle greeblies. But because the original faces the other direction... I'll set these aside for now :)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

That's looking great :thumbsup, 3D printing, what a cool concept and life saving for builds like this! ;)

Hey BD,

3D printing allows us to create virtually ANYTHING! Knowing we can now recreate every unknown greeblie within the cockpit is pretty exciting! However...

These prints are VERY porous and difficult to work with. I've already had to stop work on the panel light bezels and start over. Maruska told me that many 3D prints are done with a powder - thus the reason its so porous. Others use a liquid plastic. I don't know what the cost difference is but that's where I would be leaning after having to stop work and start over...

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

Sorry for no real updates on the cockpit. I did spend several hours pouring over pics and taking measurements of the front window and canopy. After I hurt my brain I decided to call it quits... Many of these angles are VERY confusing (we all know how easily confused I get :) ). I think I've been able to figure out how to move forward with the window/canopy. However...

I might have to create a platform (2X4s and 1/2 in ply) for the overall cockpit itself. Because the back wall is only connected by the archway and at the nose, the entire cockpit is shifting. Creating a platform with casters and bolting all the panels in place should solve the alignment and measurement issues. My only concern is the added height... We're looking at least 4 inches. I might be able to push it back far enough into the garage - if I add the additional ESB panels... "I'm doomed"

Any Ideas?
