Hi Gang,

Minor update...

Once the pin striping goes down... it will look pretty cool! I hope... :)

Still a lot of sanding to do. Plus the final coat of green paint and then the satin clear.

Lots More to Come Tomorrow!

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

That is beautiful work right there that is! Do those control the thrust or the radio volume? :confused

Is this assembly going into that fullsize MF replica in that guy's 88-acre yard?

Hi DJ,

Thanks for the kind words. I think they control bass, trebble and the seat heaters...

It was originally going part of the full scale build. But it was realized that different material should be used if it is going to last and take abuse from people playing in the cockpit. Also, we're going for the ESB version and many of panel dimensions changed. So we decided to make it a promotional piece that would travel to different SciFI/Con's to help promote the build.

I've been tinkering with the idea of making it as close to the original stage prop that was used in the movies that would also include the canopy. I think this would not only be a great promo piece but also great for photo ops for people who want their pic taken inside the cockpit! What do you think?

So... to answer your question... "yes" with a but... and "no" with an except... make sense? :)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

Just to make things clear... these are NOT the rocker knobs I will be using for this panel. I'm just placing the rockers destined for the center console to see how it will look. :)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

So here's a question. And not to derail, but...

Things like the cockpit, guns, and such are exciting and immediately gratifying to make. Who's working on the rest of the ship?

This cockpit build inspires me but I still find it hard to fathom that the full ship will ever be built. Have full plans been made and checked by an engineer? How many people are working on the project?

Don't want to sound like a downer. I REALLY want this to happen.

I have an architect and a structural engineer on the team.

I do believe we will see a life size Falcon built.

Seeing all the work that's been done on this thread and the entire project is making it come to life.

Hey B,

I only used the formica on the console body itself. I switched to MDF when I started the surround. MDF is really nice to work with but it is VERY heavy. I guess I could have used the formica on the surround with a 1/8 in ply - it would have been much lighter! But I'm not sure how I would have adhered the panels to the frame using the formica.

Oh i totally agree man, the MDF is the way to go, it just occurred to me that I didn't really see you using it, and wondered what happened. Keep it up brother, I am looking forward to the spring, and getting my portion going:love

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

So when do Han and Chewie arrive? Do they know you're doing some special modifications to their beloved ship?

Insanely amazing work! I wish I had the money, time and physical space to do a build like that! Can't wait to see the final results.

Hi Gang,

Fellow RPFer, Wavey, just tracked down these two aircrat latches that are found in the ESB cockpit. They are part of a greeblie in the cockpit right behind Chewie that attached to a box with a red panel light. I just purchased the two available on Ebay!

You can see the two latches JUST to the left of Luke’s nose below the two white acrylic buttons. They are attached to a some kind of box.

Thank you! I should be able to get a lot finished today!

I was wondering when you were going to get back started on your adventure? With the additon to the HIC... have you been redesigning the layout?

Thank PK! It has been both fun and VERY frustrating at times! I'll say it once and I'll say it 1000 times... measure 10 times cut once! :)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

Another panel down! Just need to fill it with 125+ switches!

As always... start the process with penciling out the lines (I have to do this process twice - once to mark where the holes will be drilled and then a second to lay the pin stripes)

I've also made another mold for the rocker knobs

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Looking great! Are any of the square buttons on certain panels (like the white or green ones above) going to be back-lit? ...or is that too problematic?

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi T,

I struggled with the decision to make the square buttons backlit or not. Ultimately I decided against it and would leave this piece as nothing more than a static version of what's to come! While there will be working switches and LEDs, it would have been too much work to go back and try to remove all the glass mosaic tiles, drill holes, adhere all the acrylic tiles and then try to back light. Also, the tiles would have run over $400 and that can be better used elsewhere on the project.

Hi B,

Thanks so much. Very kind words. :) I'm a firm believer that it's easier to beg forgiveness than it is to ask for permission... So when it comes to your new home... I'm just sayin' ;)
