Hey Jake, I made myself a cardboard lightsaber in 1999, Still have have it. One of the first props i made. Pretty much the same process you used but without the chrome tape.
I've never made a cardboard saber with such detail, but I used to regularly cut up paper towel tubes and sharpie on the details when I was a wee lad. This vid took me back! The aluminum tape looks great. I might have to do something like this with my niece when she comes to visit.
When I was a kid I used to make what I called "trashsabers" out of like aluminum cans, paper towel rolls, toothpaste caps, silver duct tape, etc. This takes me back although yours is much better than what I threw together as a kid.
