Limited Run Luke V2 Builder's Kit update post 64

This is the v3 today, some time after filming the v3 was taken from the archives and “restored” in silver tape, then touched up with black and copper paint

It was then put on display and supposedly launch inside space on a space shuttle mission (which I personally believe they switched out for a replica when placing it on the space shuttle)

Who ever “restored” did it had no knowledge of the original prop... this is why I say it was molested into this mess we see it as today..

Originally thanks to the wired photo released a little while ago of the resin stunt saber (which is a cast off the v3) we get to see that originally it had a circuit board clamp card like the graflex and V2

Like dan suggests, at the time they made the casts, they wanted it to look like the real one they cast it from. So the paint job on the resin stunt should match the v3 during the filming time of RoTJ

The resin stunt like throws at the emperor “you failed your highness”

You can see that resin stunt also to be painted to match the wired photo.. which make me believe that was the state the v3 was back then

I never cared for the v3 in the shape it is today. BUT there are some damn beautiful replicas of it out there! Go check out Rudy’s run he did a few years back, drop dead gorgeous..

I want my beat up v3 to sit beside it’s beat up sister in my display case

It's taken me a while for the penny to drop - I always wondered where they got the band around grip from on the hero saber. It'll be from this won't it? It looks like the clamp has slipped up the grenade section judging by this cast and whoever machined the hero prop just followed the contours.

This is after about 2 hours in the 1 bleach: 2 water bath and then 45 minutes with 0000 steel wool and a Scotch Brite pad. I'm pretty pleased, there are some places where it came out a little splotchy but they're mostly in the rings and around the neck, which will be covered with paint anyway so who cares

A little update guys, I was talking with trooper trent yesterday, showed him my plan. He came up with a much easier way, we are working together now to nail this in exact.

He actually gave me a task last night, I set everything up on my coffee table, and freak’n fell asleep...

I will have the templates done tonight and sent to trent for him to look over.

If there’s anyone who knows V2 circumference it’s him!

Sorry for the delay but we are almost there!!

I got the clamp from TGS clamp sale their having at the moment. as for the lever, there was someone on etsy selling them but i think they only had a few left. the weathering I did with several passes of aluminum black and 0000 steel wool. works great! I also dropped and dinged the pommel on purpose to get little pitts and dings on the aluminum and i left it roll down the street a few times just to get a nice "used and abused" look...turned out great but i did feel weird about doing that. lol

Can you link me to the Etsy shop, I did not know someone else is making levers... curious to see this...

On that subject - what are UK -based builders doing for clamps? Given the cost most of the reputable sellers charge for posting a single clamp over here, should we look at a group buy to keep postage down?

I can look into it if there's enough interest. For Roman's, for example, postage on one is $18.95, but only $60 for 10. However, that would probably attract a hefty VAT/duty payment....

The Graflex Shop is selling of 1st Generation blemished clamps for $25, or $20 if you order 10 or more. Mix of with/without text and no guarantee what you get.

Finished weathering mine last night (the clamp is a Roman's, the TGS I ordered is going on my KR) and the stencils are coming today. Gonna try to paint it this weekend, if the weather holds. It's been damp and rainy and it's supposed to break Saturday, but we'll see.

Here's some shots, with close-ups of most of my favorite dings:
