Zack Snyder Directing ‘Superman’ – Deadline.com

Breaking: Zack Snyder has been chosen to direct the new installment of Superman for Warner Bros. Snyder was on a short list of directors that Deadline revealed recently, who met with the studio and producers Chris Nolan and Emma Thomas. Other choices at the time included Tony Scott, Matt Reeves, Jonathan Liebesman , and Source Codes's Duncan Jones. Snyder is an inspired choice. He is a cornerstone filmmaker for Warner Bros., a visual stylist whose efforts for the studio include 300, Watchmen, and the upcoming Suckerpunch. Deadline revealed back on February 9 that the DC Comics stalwart Superman became a priority project when Nolan came up with an idea that David Goyer would write.
Chris Nolan Looks For Suoerman Director

Still wish someone other than Nolan was heading this up.

Sounds good to me. Now we just have to wait two years for the thing to actually hit the big screen. Summer of 2013 maybe?

If they do another origin story, I'll blow my freakin' brains out.

If you don't know who Superman is, get out from under your rock already.

Faster than a speeding bullet.
More powerful than a locomotive.
Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound.

Look, up in the sky!
It's a bird.
It's a plane.
It's Superman!

Yes, it's Superman: strange visitor from another planet who came to Earth with powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal men.

Superman: who can change the course of mighty rivers, bend steel in his bare hands; and who, disguised as Clark Kent: mild-mannered reporter for a great metropolitan newspaper, fights a never ending battle for truth, justice and the American way.

That's all you need to know.

Now write a great damn story.

This was posted on THR:

Goyer is writing the script, which is rumored to have, like "Superman Returns," a Richard Donner connection. In this movie's case, it's a villain connection: General Zod.

CARSON LIED! ;)

Just kidding Carson, you rock.

No, my bad. Serves me right for being such a trusting soul.

Of course, my suddenly not-so-reliable friend at Warner now SWEARS she told me Zach Snyder was the one about to be announced as the director of the Supes reboot (or re-imagining, or whatever the hell they're calling it).

Now, we had tossed down a couple martinis by that point in the conversation (okay three martinis), but I KNOW she said Aronofsky.

I was set up, I tells ya!

:lol

300 is pretty much my second favorite movie of all time...right behind Superman II: The Donner Cut, so I'm all for this.

No speed ramps though.

Confirmed: AICN just noted: Superman's villain in THE MAN OF STEEL will be General Zod!

Been done before, so they are sticking with a least a bit of the original storyline in reboot. Tough call where this one is going to go.

Not sure how I feel about Zod being the villian. I didn't care for him much in the 70s films and hated him in the recent comics (haven't seen him in Smallville). Seems like their going right for the "super man vs. super man" story that might be best saved for later when they really need to grasp as straws.

I guess Luthor's been done too much on the big screen... which is shame, if they could finally do him right with a little seriousness and an ominious presence it could be amazing (Luthor for President storyline!).

Zod is cool and all, but WHY!?!?! People, write a story with Metallo (for pure action) or Braniac (for an intellectual and physical villain, plus a connection to Krypton [if they wanted to draw from the animated series Braniac origin]). :cry

There was a recent-ish Superman comic that focused on Brainiac with an interesting take on Zod. General Zod is portrayed not as a narcissistic megalomaniac bent on taking over Krypton for selfish reasons, but suggests rather that he was legitimately concerned for Krypton's safety after witnessing the capture of the city of Kandor (stemming the leadership's ineffectiveness at fighting off Brainiac).

It would be cool to see Zod in this new picture as something of a "shadow" Superman, doing the wrong things for the right reasons. As opposed to the "mustache-twirling" villain we've all seen before.

Superman vs zod....its a remake. Ah well I like Zack and even a Superman remake is better then no superman at all.

Wish they would let go of the past and try making a good new Superman movie - maybe someday.

I'm a little terrified on how this is going to pan out.
Honestly, I think the only kind of Superman movie a modern audience is going to accept is something really violent, with enough action to keep people on the edge of their seats...and to me, the best way to re-introduce Superman to a modern audience is to kill him off!
That's right, The Death of Superman has been BEGGING to be made into a movie adaptatin since the 90's and I strongly feel an all-out brawl between the Man of Steel and Doomsday would make for one helluva action movie!
Unlike the direct to video animated feature, I would feel that a live-action Death of Superman flick would have to end exactly the way the infamous Superman #75 ended, with Lois Lane holding Superman in her arms in his 'last' moments.
A sequel or two would build to his return of course, but like the animated movie, the business regarding the imposter 'supermen' would have to me either modified heavily or ommited completely (remember, what works and makes sense in a comic book seldom works and makes sense in the real world).
Any thoughts?
