Re: ESB YODA PUPPET finished!!

I'm no expert, but he looks spot-on to me. Stunningly so. A real thing of beauty.

Big thumbs up to Cyberman and Gino for an extraordinary job! :thumbsup :thumbsup

Re: ESB YODA PUPPET finished!!

He's a beauty.....ok not really:lol
Great job Gino:thumbsup

Okay, maybe I shouldn't have used the word "beauty". :lol But hey, beauty's in the eye of the beholder.

Bottom line...best-looking Yoda this forum has seen.

Re: ESB YODA PUPPET finished!!

I´m speechless!

I drooled over the WIP pics of the lil´guy and now I´m in awe :eek
May I ask how you archieved the very subtle but accurate "dirty" look of his skin?

I tried a basecoat of the pale green, followed by different washes of pastels or simply smudged over the parts with pastel powdered hands. None of it gave me satisfying results :cry

Could someone please give me the exact specifications of the correct Tussah silk to order? There are quite a few variations, which differ in weaving, thickness and heft/ weight of the fabric. But that´s hard to determine by just the pics on thaisilks website :unsure

Thanks in advance and again...WONDERFUL!!!

Looks Fantastic! You've really nailed the painting technics and dressing to achieve the ultimate look.

Re: ESB YODA PUPPET finished!!

Thanks everyone!
It was all your positive feedback that helped keep me motivated throughout the project.
And it was good fun posting the progress step by step (as I fumbled through it).
I'm just glad to see that after what feels like a million photos later that you guys still have some interest left.
I know I've said it a few times, but all too often people become numb and bored when they are saturated with tons of pics. I've often questioned whether or not to post so many update photos out of fear of lessening the impact of the seeing the final result.
Thanks for staying tuned in along the way.

PS, if anyone has a good source for a more accurate flute/necklace string let me know.

Holy crap, that came out great Gino! Phil's Yoda really kicks ass!
Can I hire you to make a new Yoda I'm sculpting into a statue for me??

Thanks Howard. Taking on commissioned work is not something that I've really considered much, but I never completely rule out. I have so many of my own projects on my plate at once that it's amazing anything ever gets finished. :wacko

No secret techniques here. Everything I did was with a brush and varying levels of thinned out acrylic. Any colors I used were all mixed by eye.
No pastels. Any washes were applied over a base coat of PAX.

You guys always make things look so easy, but they are not...not for me :lol

Did you use any specific kind of paintbrush?
Did you do washes of thinned acrylic?

Re: ESB YODA PUPPET finished!!

I used one rounded tip brush for the entire thing.
Yep, all the washes were thinned acrylic over PAX.

Re: ESB YODA PUPPET finished!!

Fantastic work Gino! It's inspiring me to keep going with mine, although I'm still at the stage of working on the armature at the moment.

Re: ESB YODA PUPPET finished!!

Wow. It looks like you snagged that from the set. Amazing.

Re: ESB YODA PUPPET finished!!

Nothing bad can be said about this, it is that well executed. As was said earlier: that IS Yoda! :thumbsup

And you've inspired me to go lighter on my own scaled paint-up. Never realized or dared go lighter before this and the result always suffered because of it.
