Re: ESB YODA PUPPET finished!!

One more thing...
could you please share how you managed the eyes being adjustable?

And a bump for the fabric-question :D

Thanks again, Markus

Great Yoda! Stunning! :eek

Congratulations for finishing a project that is another awesome addition to your collection!

(y)thumbsup:thumbsup

Re: ESB YODA PUPPET finished!!

Thanks again.
If any of you have some new good photo ideas, let me know.
Some poses from the movies are difficult to achieve if he has an expression on his face that I cannot match.
I'm not just talking about scenes from the movies either, but good photo opportunities. For example, I was thinking of taking him to a Dagobah-ish looking outdoor location for a shoot. Another thing I'd like to do is a shoot with him someone's R2 (maybe Matt Munson won't mind getting his R2 picture taken).
Any good ideas, please post them here.

The eyes sit in sockets that were cast into the foam filled latex head. All I have to do is use my index finger (from the outside) to the desired position.

Re: ESB YODA PUPPET finished!!

I seem to be giving you alot of credit lately but once again this is very impressive work Gino. One of the Yoda shots in particular could almost pass for the real 1978/79 prop. :thumbsup

Re: ESB YODA PUPPET finished!!

WOW I am TOTALLY SPEACHLESS:eek:eek:eek:eek:eek:eek:eek

I have said this before, and I say it again. When it comes to StarWars
and it´s about details, GINO kicks world wide a$$. I mean seriously, this is insane good guys.
I can just stop painting props and close my studio down when I see this amazing work. I don´t have a chance :confused

Not only have you captures the colors and details, you actually made a dead puppet to look alive.

AMAZING GINO, MY HAT GOES OFF FOR YOU:thumbsup

That's super kind of you to say Bjorn. :$
I'm very interested in the feedback from other fine artists like yourself and everyone who chimed in here.

Re: ESB YODA PUPPET finished!!

Just of curiosity, how difficult would it be to make one of these with some degree of mechanical ability to it...like being able to insert your hand into the head and make the mouth move? I know a fully functional puppet like was used in the movie is more complex than that. I just mean a basic level of puppetry for the head.

It's amazing that two fans can pull off this level of accuracy, but LFL's own team of designers and sculptors couldn't. Says something about how little care and attention to detail went into PT Yoda.

You should send pics of this to Frank Oz. I'm sure he'd get a kick out of it.

Re: ESB YODA PUPPET finished!!

Actually, the yoda in these pics is a semi-functional puppet.
I can put my hand up through his torso, through his neck and into his mouth.
I can move the mouth with my hand, but have no way to puppet the eyes or ears. They are posable, but not puppet-able.
Phil and I decided early on that for posterity sake, we wouldn't use foam latex (which does not last forever) with and under skull (which would have enabled full articulation). We sacrificed some articulation for the safety and longevity of foam filled latex. He really is mean more for display than puppeteering. Had that been our main goal from the beginning, I think we could have handled it with a little help.

I'd love to hear what Frank Oz, Stuart Freeborn, or Nick Maley would think of him, but I would be surprised if they would be interested in some fan made piece.

C'MON!

You're just showing us photos of the real thing.

Re: ESB YODA PUPPET finished!!

Ordinarily I'd agree with you. But, this is no ordinary "fan made" piece. What you've done with this character is really nothing short of amazing. Helmets and armour, as impressive as those are, are one thing. This is quite another. Nothing has ever come close to really looking the way yoda actually looked. There was the original Yoda, and then all this other stuff, licensed and fan made, that kinda looked like him, and you knew was supposed to be Yoda, but it wasn't. Now, there's the original Yoda, and there's yours. Just amazing. It's seeing achievements like this that make this hobby worth it. I've been shaking my head in amazement since seeing the pictures.

This really is a must have. This would be the holy grail of my collection if I had one of these. I have never wanted to even purchase a yoda before, because he has never been done close enough to really capture his essence for me personally. This one finally does. AMAZING!
