Yet Another Iron Man Helmet Sculpt - Painted Pg. 6

I've been wanting an Iron Man helmet since I saw the movie and have been in awe with all of the awesome builds by many talented members here:thumbsup.

I really wanted to buy one of Fettster's helmets, but my wife thought this project would be a good way for me to practice my sculpting and also save a bit of money (since she knew I wanted more than one helmet to do variants:lol).

After sculpting it too large at first and wanting to quit, I chopped down the styrofoam armature I made and started over again.

I did this sculpt oldschool only using front, side and back reference photos, Roma plastilina clay, sculpting tools and waxpaper to copy one side to the other.

So after a few weeks, here's what it looks like now:

I know it's not perfect, but I'm very happy with how it turned out.
I still have some tweaking to do, maybe making the eyes larger and sharpening the circle around the earpieces, but it's pretty much done.

Thanks for looking!

Very Nice!!!! :thumbsup

But I do agree that the Eye slots should be larger, but not by much! IMO.

Re: Yet Another Iron Man Helmet Sculpt

With the current size of the eyes, it looks more meancing:) I like the current look:thumbsup

Re: Yet Another Iron Man Helmet Sculpt

exellent job, looks very mean, i agree about the area around the ear. from 8pm to 12pm as you look at it lets it down a little. if you could tighten that up it will be pretty much perfect,

well done sir :thumbsup

Re: Yet Another Iron Man Helmet Sculpt

Hey there! Excellent work!
I'd leave the eyes the way they are! Like it way better.

There's something wrong in the side view though, looks like the entire helmet leans forward or has the weight shifted forward...stuff like that.

Other than that, excellent work!

Re: Yet Another Iron Man Helmet Sculpt

Nice job!
Ya know....people assembling an Iron Man suit should collect all these helmets. With the subtle differences in each one, it would be like creating facial expressions.

Re: Yet Another Iron Man Helmet Sculpt

WOW. I envy anyone that can sculpt, 'cause I suck at it.

Terrific job.

You mean like this Jack Skellington collection thing...

Nice helmet. Those lines are very crisp and smooth.

Re: Yet Another Iron Man Helmet Sculpt

That's freaking awesome. Colour me impressed!

Re: Yet Another Iron Man Helmet Sculpt

Thanks for all the great responses guys:$!

I've only sculpted a handfull of times and it certainly is rewarding to get something finished and have other folks appreciate it.

This was a fun project and has been the fastest I've sculpted anything this size.

I fixed the ear section and I also reworked the line and first "tier" of the helmet to match the pics of the top of the helmet I found today from the jet scene in the movie. I keep forgetting to add the vertical line below the ear, but I'll do that soon and maybe shorten the top tracks/lines.
I think I'll call him finished for now and rework anything on a version II.

Here's the pic of the new profile and top of the helmet:

Re: Yet Another Iron Man Helmet Sculpt

Very nice sculpt.

It might just be the camera lens or the angle of the helmet but the top lip looks a little bit too flat to my eye, should be very slightly lower in the middle than the sides.Other than that looks really good.

Re: Yet Another Iron Man Helmet Sculpt

i think i looks great. although it looks a relatively simple design, its not the easiest to scult in clay. hat off to you sir

Re: Yet Another Iron Man Helmet Sculpt

Thanks again!

Reactor drone - I couldn't quite figure out what you meant with the "top lip", what is it and which picture are you refering to?

Fettster - Yeah, I thought it was simple in the beginning, but starting off too large plus not knowing all the angles involved, made it a bit tricky.
It was a trial and error sculpting process with many redos.

But again, I'm glad it's done since it has come a long way from this :D :
