Yet Another Iron Man Helmet Sculpt - Painted Pg. 6

Re: Yet Another Iron Man Helmet Sculpt

Thanks again and yeah, I'm happy with the clone :D

Ceric Neesh - I've since fixed the rear of the head from my last update, but didn't post up the pics:

The "left" ear on the picture still seems a bit high but not at all noticeable in person, but again, I'm calling this finished and not do any more changes on the actual sculpt.
As for the seam lines, that can be widened on the actual cast since it will have a groove that can easily be followed by a file.

Re: Yet Another Iron Man Helmet Sculpt

Amazing Vash, best helmet so far, looks very angry and cold, I love it!

Here is a couple of things I thought looked a little off, if you need an explanation of the picture just ask. :D

Re: Yet Another Iron Man Helmet Sculpt

I pulled my first slush resin copy today and it turned out better than I expected:thumbsup.
Sure there are some detail areas I need to re-work, but I'm just glad I got a good pull from my mold.

Now that I have a cast, I can see the symmetry issues much easier and can go back and fix these.
Immediately I saw that the "brow" area on the right side (left on picture) needed to go down a bit about 1/16th of an inch and the curve of the right cheeck needed to be adjusted.
I taped a piece of paper on it with the right adjustment to correct it.

However, I'll be pulling a couple more to play with and cut up:).

Re: Yet Another Iron Man Helmet Sculpt - 1st cast PIC

Did you change the eyes, or did you step in closer and have him looking downwards more? I liked the last photo where he was looking directly into the camera. Can you post a photo but taken from 6 feet back? That will reduce lens distortion and give us a better sense of the overall shape of the mask. :thumbsup

Re: Yet Another Iron Man Helmet Sculpt - 1st cast PIC

job well done!!!(y)thumbsup i really hope you can make a run!! i want one!!

Re: Yet Another Iron Man Helmet Sculpt - 1st cast PIC

No changes in the eyes, just looking down a bit.
Here's one more straight on and all my pics are approx. 5-6 ft away.
It's kinda hard taking a picture of a white helmet and I really need a better camera and a light box:unsure

I sanded the cheek to match the other side, but I need to sand a bit more on both sides to have a smoother slope from the top down.

Great work indeed, now make a cold cast Mk2 version :love

Re: Yet Another Iron Man Helmet Sculpt - 1st cast PIC

Very smooth. Love the look on it.

Re: Yet Another Iron Man Helmet Sculpt - 1st cast PIC

Thanks again!
This has been a real fun project and I'm so happy how it turned out.
I wish I knew how to cold cast, I may just give it a try ;).

I had a chance to make a second cast today and started to work on a faceplate as well.
I can't wait to get to the painting stage:love.

Fantastic! Absolutely fantastic! Your wife was right about you making one yourself!
I wish I those types of sculpting skills.

Re: Yet Another Iron Man Helmet Sculpt - 1st cast PIC

I still have a ways to go, but I started the main colors of the helmet last night ("brushed" gold and metal and ruby red metal flake):

I still have to put in the grey in the nooks and crannies as well as a bit of weathering.

Wow... Really awesome looking helmet - you must be very proud! So much better than the Museum Replicas piece!!!

Thanks so much!

Yes, I am very proud of how this turned out and it's getting me jazzed to sculpt more of his armor.

I did some weathering with some grey washes on the helmet and I'm happy how it turned out:

I wanted the eyes to stay fairly white, so I used a mirror tinted acrylic and mounted perforated white vinyl on it.
It makes for a nice effect and great visibility and folks can't see your eyes behind it even with flash.
Forgive the cheek greeblie, it's being held on by blue masking tape. Once I attach these permanently, this version is pretty much finished.
I'll tackle the MK II next so stay tuned. . .
