Yet Another Iron Man Helmet Sculpt - Painted Pg. 6

Re: Yet Another Iron Man Helmet Sculpt

Thanks again!

Reactor drone - I couldn't quite figure out what you meant with the "top lip", what is it and which picture are you refering to?

Fettster - Yeah, I thought it was simple in the beginning, but starting off too large plus not knowing all the angles involved, made it a bit tricky.
It was a trial and error sculpting process with many redos.

But again, I'm glad it's done since it has come a long way from this :D :

its the only way we get better mate. I did my first one in clay and im sure i came across the same reality check you did, thats why i decided to try a different route with my latest. your is a cracking sculpt mate and you should be proud

Re: Yet Another Iron Man Helmet Sculpt

Very nice sculpt. I machined my ears as well when I sculpted mine, but it looks like you have better refference. I did mine before the movie came out and was limited on refference.

Re: Yet Another Iron Man Helmet Sculpt

Thanks guys, I truly appreciate the nice comments.
I don't sculpt that much (This is only my fourth clay sculpture this large) and it certainly makes me want to continue challenging myself with this medium.

I'm definately in awe of all you guys who can turn these out even before the movies come out. Seeing all the talent here has been a real inspiration.

Now the tough part is doing a mold of this without screwing it up :sick

Re: Yet Another Iron Man Helmet Sculpt

This was the pic I was referring to,as I said it's subtle and it might just be the angle and I've probably overcorrected a little in photoshop but....

Ah, got it, thanks! I've been throwing the idea around of opening the mouth up a bit more, so I'll take that into consideration.

That is a mighty fine helmet. I really like the look of it! I in fact also love the eyes. :):thumbsup

Re: Yet Another Iron Man Helmet Sculpt

Thanks again guys!

I finally got this thing primed and ready to mold. I don't even think I need to do a throwaway mold for this since it is pretty smooth.
Since I sand all my projects anyway before painting, it should work out just fine.

Here's some close-up pics:

I'm hoping to continue this build with the rest of his armor, so tune in. . .

Holy crap!!! :confused

I can't believe how your lines are crisp and the symetry is good!!! Ditto on the question above! :love

This is my favorite sculpt to date.

I've attempted a symmetrical ROTS Vader sculpt, and I found it helpful to constantly check for asymmetry in the mirror.

The bottom right jawline (the vertical line that runs down to the corner of the jaw) differs in angle to the left (as you look at it). You may also want to check the lower right corner as it appears lower than the left.

The left ear is also a bit higher than the right.

But if you don't want to address these, it's a darned nice sculpt, and I'd probably be in line for one!

Do consider a bust. If you're doing armor, the bust is only the upper portion of the armor! :thumbsup

Re: Yet Another Iron Man Helmet Sculpt

Again, I appreciate all the nice comments.

As far as symmetry goes, that's the best I could do on this version.
I'm too afraid to screw it up to fix any more on the clay sculpt, but if I get the urge, I may do something when I get a casting.
This was a great learning experience for me and I think a mixed media using cut outs and clay, rather than clay alone, would render more symmetrical pieces.

As far as the armor, I'll be starting from the top down, so a bust would certainly be a possibility ;)

I didn't think there would be a market for these helmets, since so many have been done, but I will make some available to any interested.

Re: Yet Another Iron Man Helmet Sculpt

The market is born from the awesomeness of the sculpt ;)

Man, a top armor would be awesome. You could even form it in ABS to keep the cost low? I really liked the sideshow one, but there was no way I could justify 700$ for it! ;)

Re: Yet Another Iron Man Helmet Sculpt

I know what you mean Bigturc.
I've been eyeing that bust since it first came out and I seriously thought of buying one.
However, I wanted to do both versions and no way could I afford one, let alone two.
So although silicone and resin costs a couple of hundred dollars, I could get several helmets.

By the way, since I used foam as an armature, I only used about 4 bricks of clay on this helmet at around $6 a piece. Since I can salvage the clay and use it again after molding, this project was well worth it:thumbsup.

Re: Yet Another Iron Man Helmet Sculpt

Re: Yet Another Iron Man Helmet Sculpt

OMFG! That is the best .....Hasbro Clonetrooper mod I have ever seen! hands down! Oh & the Ironman helmet aint have bad either!
Doood! you are a talent!!!
I want one!!!!! since I'm not getting a Jango bust anytime soon :lol
Seriously amazing work my friend!:thumbsup

Re: Yet Another Iron Man Helmet Sculpt

Looks great, man. Symmetry looks to be slightly off in the back, and the seams don't look well-defined enough, but that's about it. Oh, the "forehead" is too big... the "brow" needs to be at a larger angle to the forehead than it is currently.
