Yale and ERA Tardis Key Research (Info for the 1963-present keys)

Hey guys, just going to bed...got the new keys...yeah DON'T BOTHER. They are very VERY undersized and not worth it as a replica. They are almost literally pendants XD You MIGHT consider them for a child's costume as for a kid around 6 to 12 they would be scaled appropriately but that aside, they aren't worth your money for your collection.

That explains the ring rather than a drilled hole then. I would be interested in size comparison pics.

Yeah it does, it also explains why the details looked so soft. At the size they are at they WOULD be a bit soft. If they were the correct size they would look too rounded with no crisp details. As they are though these are something someone that "likes" Doctor Who would buy their girlfriend to wear around her neck...that's it. That or the aforementioned child's costume size, lol.

Here's a pic I just took:

YIKES!

The details looks so close you have to wonder how they made theirs. From pics? Scans? What?

Probably pics. It's not like there aren't plenty of pics of the keys NOW or at least replicas but there are plenty of important details they got wrong. The Pertwee key for example has incorrect arm damage detail and the McCoy has an incorrect seal in the dead center where they should all meet. They're separated instead of meeting and not like how Megatron initially made his.

I thought at first they were re-casts of Mooncrest keys.

I think they are BASED off pics of Mooncrest keys but recasts? I suppose they could have shrink the molds but proportionally they are WAY too thin to be shrunken Mooncrest keys. By that I mean at the scale they are at the layers are still thinner by HALF of what they should be if they were Mooncrest recasts, and then the details I mentioned above as well as...well you see that triangular section with the circuitry looking design in it on the McCoy key? The KO looking key actually has that bulge UP in the center rather than keeping it flat. Really looks odd in hand.

In a way it's KINDA too bad as the material is very hard even at the thickness it's at so if they were full scale and still thin they would be pretty tough.

I didn't know they were smaller then Mooncrests, can't tell how big they are based on the eBay pics.

Best way to tell if they are recasts is size match one to the other digitally and overlay them. If the details match then the smaller ones are recasts and the thinness is probably due to using a shallow mold or just being cheap and making it thinner to use less materials.

Definitely not recasts. Too small and too many details don't match properly. Like I said, the arms on the Pertwee don't match, especially the "damaged" arm and the triangular section on the top where they should have a hole is different on one side as well and some of the patterns have different gaps, and the seal on the McCoy is wrong. Proportionally they are close but I'm saying they used pictures of the Mooncrest keys, not actual Mooncrest keys.

Doesn't really matter in the end though since they are so small you wouldn't want to use them as a prop as you'd look absolutely silly.

I really don't care for the Yale and ERA keys. Doctor Who is a fantasy, and I always gravitated towards the Fantastic.

So which key is used in the show now?

Anybody's guess. With Capaldi being a fan of Pertwee I would not be the least bit surprised (and extremely hopeful) if the Spade key made a return.
