Yale and ERA Tardis Key Research (Info for the 1963-present keys)

Which begs the question, is it a key ring or is it a ring with a spare key on it. Since I have two of those Yale keys left in my collection I'm tempted to put them both on a small ring for my collection but part of me wants to use this new seal of Rassilon key-chain I just got. Sure it wouldn't be screen accurate and it's a bit fan-wanky as they say but since we have no way of knowing what really is screen accurate it would be a bit of fun for me. That said, the best bet is two keys on a small ring.

Actually another possibility is that it could be a short chain of some kind. Which I am actually liking the best since it will look more appropriate than two keys.

Here's what I believe I see for the "Full Circle" key. Tom does separate something in his hands when he pulls out the key and at first I thought it seemed like a proper key chain and two keys but like I said above a short chain seems a tad more likely to me now.

Looks good! I used a short thin chain on one of my Yale's like that. Didn't realize that it might be close to accurate,lol.


BTW, your Davison Sonic. I'd take the bullet out of the ring and then face the bullet the other way around inside the ring. That way the magnet is facing the same side of the grip that the diagonal slot is on.

Yeah as I said it's my best guess that it is a short chain since the scene isn't so detailed but it's really our only look at his Yale key. But it works rather nicely. Look at you being all screen accurate without even trying

Funny thing here, I actually made it point the way I did on purpose, here's my personal resigning, my Baker is basically a "City of Death" style Fourth Doctor version his bullet tip is pointing the same side as the slot. So for Davison I decided, since they are the same prop just repainted in reality, I wanted it to look that way and had them face the same direction, which I know wasn't the case in reality but I liked it. Also made this choice because the main close up we see of the Davison prop was in "Four to Doomsday" and his bullet isn't on either side of the slot, it actually runs parallel with it. So this is one of those few times I took the idealization route. I prefer the bullet tip to be showing in my display vs the magnet side and I like to see the slotted side as well so it was the best of both worlds sort of thing.

Will do. We have a few new shots using some thinner steel but it's a tad too thin. Once we get orders and presales for the keys we'll be using that money to buy the correct type and thickness we want. I think we'll be using something in the range of a 300 grade stainless so it darkens a bit and ages.

Ahhh, what I did was make the Pertwee version line up with the grip slot, then the Baker is slightly off to the side and the Davison is a complete 90 degree angle to the emitter. I noticed that in the Sontaran Experiment the angled butt end and slot on the grip are off to the side at that point anyway so I make it like the emitter head kept walking further to the right putting the angle to the side like that XD

I used a cheapo lock on my Tardis. I assume I could take a Yale key blank to Lowes or Wal-Mart and have them cut one to fit my lock? Anybody try something like this?

Lowe's and Home Depot won't cut your keys. If you try they won't cut them for whatever reason because you didn't buy them from their store. I tried a lot. They give you the runaround and make up BS. Just go to a Tru Value or an old school hardware store with an actual key lathe. Anyone with a cartridge cutter will have problems I find. Some Yale keys just won't fit into the cartridge. Most of those stores also have their own brand that typically is not Yale or ERA and they look atrocious.

I'm with Straker, Lowes and Home Depot didn't give me a hard time, they just acted like they's never seen that type of key before. Even tried to put it in the slots they have to figure out which type of key it was. But I found a local Locksmith who cuts mine for me and they only ever charge the price of their own blanks which is dirt cheap. And twice they didn't even charge me.

Y1 Yale blanks, plated in nickle and almost entirely blank aside from a tiny Y1 on one side.

Not really. The last seller on eBay I used ran out. Unfortunately the only way to get them now is an independent supplier or just buying the accurate door lock and getting the keys already cut for that lock.

Ugh, so I broke down and decided to buy those new Tardis Keys we're seeing on eBay. You know, the ones with the chain loop above where the holes are supposed to be drilled on the real keys?

They're kinda awful looking but in my quest to acquire ALL the keys commercially available to catalog them I had to get them as well. I'll let you all know when I get them.

It also looks pretty bad all things considered when the back is missing all the accurate features that we now can get in an unlicensed replica...though I suppose that would explain the price drop from $49 to $16, lol. I'd just like to see in in-hand picture.
