Yale and ERA Tardis Key Research (Info for the 1963-present keys)

Agreed. With no way of knowing what brand it could be if not a Yale, Yale is actually the prefered choice. Because in my head all the classic keys, real keys, were Yale. So I was glad to see that Yale made single bumper keys to support this line of thinking.

Yup, & sanded down it serves as a good Smith key from 11th Hour.

Yeah, I'd stick with the JMA for that myself, at least until we find the Silca key. Mainly because I'd feel bad sanding a old Yale like that. I shouldn't, but I would.

So I was looking at more episodes the other day and I realized out of the keys in the Doctor Who Experience thanks to this scene from Last of the Time Lords we know what key is Martha's.

And then I noticed that he ERA actually did get some logo side screen time in the show and it was actually during Tennant's era in The Lazarus Experiment.

Found some time tonight to sand down one of my classic YALEs that was too patina'd too clean to make Clara's key. Beside a JMA I've dubbed for my 11th Hour key.

They look really nice Timey. What did you use to sand you Tennant key? I know you sprayed it with a sealer but it looks very smooth and brushed steel like. I wonder if we will be lucky enough to find a steel key like the JMA for the new 11 key.

Thanks, for the JMA I had used a vertical sanding wheel that my father had, no idea what the grit was though. It worked fairly quickly but a few that I had I sanded un-evenly till I got the hang of it. The brass YALE I used a Black & Decker mouse hand sander with 120 grit. That let me lay the sander completely flat on the key.

On both of the keys I hand sanded with 600 grit after to smooth them out.

But yeah on the JMA key I used Rustoleum spray sealant, the brass key I'll probably just leave alone & polish as needed.

That's what I am doing wrong then, I didn't go as high up as 600 grit. I should give that a go myself. Mine just didn't get that smooth.

toddbg, the Davison key is a new find, go back to about page 9 to see where it started. For the info on the Tennant key really you want a Silca but we haven't found the right one yet. The JMA is a close enough. And yes, it's sanded. If you read through all the pages here you will find more information on other Doctor's keys as well, not just 10 and 5

That is a Smith's Enfield Mantle clock key. :cool

Actually, it looks like the whole clock is embedded into the console there.

MmmmmHmmm. Me and my big mouth. Which one of you is bidding against me? :lol

Is anyone here more familiar with the Sarah Jane Adventures than I am? I remember talk of the Pertwee/Baker key on Sarah's desk in the attic but don't recall which episode it was seen in.

Yeah I hear you there. I watched them all once just because it was Liz Sladen and I'll admit that a couple were better than the kiddy show feel but really only watch the two Doctor stories they did otherwise. Which the Smith one is more kiddy that Tennant it seems. That said, I know Sarah's attic had a lot fo nods to the past in it and I remember talk of her 3/4 TARDIS key being there. I'd like to see it for myself but not sure I want to rewatch them all for just that.

Was it an episode titled "Death of the Doctor"? Reading the Wiki for it.. "Sarah Jane and Jo are strapped into the Memory Weave. Their minds are scanned and they begin remembering the TARDIS; these memories generate a new TARDIS key."

May not be what you're referring to but what I found bored at work.

No, in that one they were showing the Tennant/Smith key. I'm not sure how well the Pertwee/Baker key can be seen as I heard it was just on the desk during a scene in Sarah attic. But it was one of the non key looking ones. I think it was Series 1 for her, so I'll just have to do a search of the attic scene later and see what I can come up with. I wonder if it was the Pilot now.
