Hello to all you fellow Y wing lovers! I am new to the forum but am very excited about what I have read in this thread and am beginning the steps to build my studio scale Y.

I cannot believe the amount of time and effort, not to mention money that you guys have invested in this project.

I would like to catch up as quick as possible, and I have to admit that I don't have as much time or resources as some of you seem to.

I have a good supply of original leggs eggs if anyone is needing any.

I was wanting to know if any of you have cast any of the parts that you are all discovering. I would be very interested in buying what ever I could. I'm not trying to be lazy or rip off anyones research work, I know you guys have worked your butts off finding these things, I just know that I cannot afford all those kits to get the parts from.

If any one is doing resin parts, please let me know. Also anyone needing eggs for the engines let me know. IT's not much, but all I can contribute at this time.

I am most interested in the very back piece on the body and the four pieces that come off the engine domes onto the engine bodies to get started.

Thanks for your time and you guys have done an awesome job!

Welcome, HeatRay!

There may be a few parts available very soon, but only a few. Bigger offerings have been explored in the past but never came to fruition, alas.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. I have received several PMs for the eggs. I need to go to my garage and dig out the parts box and see how many I have. I haven't pulled them out in a few years but remember I had 20 or so.

Everyone who needs some please contact me soon so I can distirbute them as evenly as possible. I will PM everyone back in a day or so. I am off on thursday and friday. I will dig them out then.

I will sell them cheap, but would really rather trade them for help or assistance in building my Y, such as resin parts, copied plans, photos or videos of the filming model.....ect.

I need some measurements of the cockpit to start carving.

Thanks, Jim

You may not have to. Certain things are in the works.

Hey guys! Sorry but it is taking me longer to unpack than I thought. I will get to all that sent PM's soon.

I WILL find those eggs!!!!!

Found!!! Finally! I have found which box had the eggs in them! WoW! I completely forgot how many boxes of parts and unbuilt kits were out there. I have to admit that I played a bit with each deal I opened and rediscovered.

O.K. Every one that sent me a pm has been notified. There seems to be enough for everyone, but they will go out on a first come first served basis. If anyone else is interested please let me know soon. There is a rainbow of colors, not everyone will match but that should not matter.

My offer still stands that I would prefer to trade these for good drawings or resins detail bits or what ever, but there seems to be little out there available at this time so the eggs are being just sold if you need them.

Info has been sent to all that sent pm's.

Jim

Heatray, how do I send you a PM (sorry I'm new at this). I have some kit parts you may like and would trade for a couple eggs.

Click on his name, you will get info about the user, # of posts, email, signature, and so on. On the Username row there is the oprion to send him a PM.

Thanks to those of you who are willing to share your info and parts!

I still have some extra eggs if someone reads this later and needs some, PM me.

Martyn, PM me so I can send you the eggs.

Anyone else willing to share parts, drawings or photos please PM or email me.

Thanks again!

I recently acquired the Tamiya 1/12 JPS MKIII kit. The photo shows the Entex 1/8th scale piece on the right and the Tamiya piece in the middle of the two engine halves that are on the top of the Y-Wing. It would seem that the Tamiya 1/12 scale piece is a better match.

O.K., still being relatively new to the RPF and this thread, I am trying to pay my dues. I have printed out this entire thread and read it several times putting it into a "project" binder.

I have shared what parts I had and gathered up the materials I think I need to scratch build what has t be made.

My problem is this, this thing started so long ago that many of the photo and parts reference links seem to no longer exist?

Can any of you either post or send me photos of parts or filming models references? I don't want to start anything over, I am just trying to catch up, and unlike some of you out there I could use "Some stinking plans!"

I would love to see what any oone has done on their own Y's so far.

I have some kits on the way, but sooooooooooooooo far to go.

Is the parts list posted somewhere?

Your right the Y HAS indeed come a long way. I can't believe I've been able to stick with the project for so long.
Sorry no plans available. As far as reference, really GOOD reference is almost as coveted as an accurate parts list.. Look around the net, there are a few good reference pictures out there. Most publicized part lists are vague and quite inaccurate. As is a lot if not most of the early information writen here.

I am not trying to turn you off from the project, but the ANH Y is the hardest of any of the ANH models to make. Not to mention one of the most expesive. It has more donor kits used on it than the 5' ANH Falcon!!

I won't be showing any more pictures of my Y for awhile. About 10 or so parts are all that's left to find on her. Once found, then I'll show it off a bit.

Here is a little something from starshipbuilder.com that I believe needs to be posted here.

The Rules of Studio Scale Modeling...

"No matter how enthusiastic you may be in the beginning, if you get into one of these projects you will eventually realize that it requires a tremendous investment in time, energy, and money. As a result, once some people get far along into a project they tend to become protective of their hard work and research. Yes, info is shared, but only among trusted associates. The idea of publicly posting information about rare kits, etc. is abhorrent to most involved in this hobby because it renders their hard work worthless.

If you are still serious about tackling a studio-scale modeling project, you might want to know what you're getting into before taking the plunge. Here is an overview of what you can expect:

-- Start by going through all the threads on this board and
--Everyone is responsible for their own research. No one will supply "all the reference" needed or a list of "all the kits" needed for any project so please do not post these kind of requests.

-- The only way you can find the right part is if you have good reference photos. Unfortunately these can be as hard to come by as kit lists! Many good pics have been published in vintage magazines but these can be expensive to collect. (I paid anywhere from $5 to $25 EACH, for example, for all the magazines I have in my collection.) Star Wars modelers have a real advantage here because most of the studio miniatures have been on public display and therefore more photos are available now than ever before.

-- Once you have some photos, you can start collecting kits, but you will find that the cost adds up fast. Since many of these kits are vintage and no longer available, this can get very expensive in a hurry.

-- Remember that just because a kit is listed on this or any other site does NOT mean it was actually used on a particular studio miniature. Many times people think they found the right kit when in fact they did not and, as a result, there is some erroneous info out there. Only by purchasing kits and searching through parts will you know for sure that you have the right ones.

The more prominent a certain kit becomes the harder it can be to find. This is why people are not willing to give away their hard-earned kit lists anymore.

Hopefully you can now begin to see why people aren't very forthcoming these days with either reference photos or kit lists. I hope that by posting this I haven't discouraged you, but I simply want to be realistic about what is involved."

Thanks Charles.

Thanks for the info Charlse. I can't say that I understand or agree with it all though. The RPF isn't quite what I thought it was when I first found it.

Many are very willing to help and others have a "Don't know you, won't tell you" thing going on.

It's just a hobby to me, though a very fun and enjoyable one. I'm the type to help out anyway I can, when ever I can. To me that makes it more enjoyable.

I think folks are much more deeper into this sort of building and it has taken a form I am not used to seeing.

However, I will research what I can, collect the parts that I can and build my Y. It just looks like it will take everyone much, much longer. No doubt when some one gets theirs done though, it will be posted for all to gaze at!
Not to offend anyone, but i'm glad we're talking models here and not curing cancer. It would stink for someone to find a major break through and then keep it to themselves because they discovered it.

It all just seems a little silly.

Thanks again to all who have helped a lot and I will email you guys regularly.
