X-WING 1:1 SCALE

Are you done yet? At the rate you knock these out you must be done... I have to go to that museum some day! I'm holding out for the life size Millennium Falcon you're probably doing next...

You must have very large shelves.
Well, they’re large… tracts of land.

Yep, that's right, a full size Red V, X-Wing...this has been chewed over for a few months but now it's all systems go and I will attempt to produce a replica of Luke's T65 from ESB.
I have already accurately modelled this ship, so the first stage was to scale it all up x 24 and get a feel for the various components and how to fabricate them...and yep, it's huge...13.4 M long, around 40 foot, which means that I will have to split the Fuselage in half and do the wings, which will be closed, separately, both left and right. We did talk about doing it in flight mode but it will displayed on the ground, in a hanger, so it has to be landed with legs down. We are planning a fully detailed cockpit and all the decals and paint job u would expect to see.

So first is the fuselage, which means creating molds for skinning the hull. I'm opting to do the front half first and this will house the front of the canopy, the cockpit from the seat forward as well as the long front leg, nose cone and thruster inlet ports

Here's where I am; Molds, cut to form the front fuselage;

and setting out for the hull...I will do the underside first;

can you give more details as to what went into making the canopy frame?...
you CNC milled carbon fiber sheet?

I didn't get much further myself..gathered the graflex, TI calculator and Slide viewer. -a few other bits including aluminum knobs etc. for the ANH Cockpit.
No place to keep even the Cockpit.... trickiest part on the Ccokpit is fabricating the Canopy frame, keeping it light

Hi greeble-gremlin, no, the canopy is 3D printed and then wrapped in CF...I wish I had the facility to CNC it.

To be honest, I'm really not sure what the differences are between the Red V in ANH and ESB...cockpit or otherwise. I kinda thought it was supposed to be the same ship. Any pics, highlighting the differences, would be extremely helpful
