X-men: First Class costumes?

I been coordinating with cosplaysky and been working on the magneto version. It will be out soon, but they do not like sewing caps on the suit. So when it's done, they will post pics of it. However, u will need to attach those "caps" things urself and replace the harness for something better.

But will it be a one piece flight suit like in the film? Must have the yellow woven fabric, blue waffle texture, and most important leather details with accordian stitched accents. :love

its not gonna be 100% identical to the movie. but it will have the same look with cheaper materials like jeans materials for the blue parts and the yellow will have that patched look but its not PVC. Will be updating with pics when i can. In a couple of weeks. Exams T_T

But like my Cobra Commander costume, i will try to get it to look as close as possible cosmetically and comfy! Its going to be a two piece. Had to idea to make the top swapable for other versions of X-Men tops to mix and match.

That swap idea isn't a bad one. It might go over well, if the suit is done right. Would love to see what they all look like to be honest. Those valves will have to be custom casted or milled. Sad to say that the pieces were gov't made back in the late 50's/early 60's.

I wanted to see a real version for Wolvie so i made this

that actually wouldn't have looked too bad. I'd be interested if somebody could do an even cleaner render of that

Wolvie's cameo in XFC had me in stitches. PaperMashia, I can't wait to see your finished Beast. I did the X3 Beast a couple years back, but of course that was the version that didn't have such feline facial features.

I suppose this is probably the right thread for this. Can anybody tell what Fassbender is wearing during the Russia sequence? It looks to me like simple black trousers and boots, but as I've found with the RPF, nothing ever seems to be as simple as it initially appears.

The jacket is on its way from Wested.

Well, I made it to Halloween weekend, and things weren't quite right, but I've had fun with this build. I'll continue to tweak the suit more, but here are some pics...

Here's my share of the completed costume of Magneto. Without the vest. Made not as a one piece, but as a jacket for convenience. Swap jacket, voila .. another X-Men char and all that!

With my brother forced to model for me ^^

Great start to the flight suit!! What is that yellow woven fabric? That looks damn good for a kevlar stand in. :D

Understand waffling the blue denim will be the toughest part. But the overall look to achieve is the bring in the fit to make the suit seem more professional and custom. ;)

THe maker called it PVC canvas material. This suit is a combination of PVC, canvas, jeans materials. Still working on the harness .. i should have something to show next week.

I wish they had gone with something more like this in the film. Something more emotive would have been nice.

Hey all, some great looking stuff on this thread! I already posted these on a separate one, but figured I'd share here too for consolidation's sake :) These are few glamor shots of my Magneto getup from the 31st.

I ended up making a few compromises on the jacket and pants for time and budget reasons, but I'm happy with the general impression of the costume. I'm not a fan of how my jacket protrudes beneath the belt...that's one of the things I think I'll have to fix if I wear it to a con. That and the addition of arm and knee pads! I'm really liking some of the jackets other folks have been coming up with, so might have to try something more authentic in the future.

Helmet is a fiberglass casting of my original sculpt, harness is hand-made with buckles and (nonfunctional) ladder locks cast from original sculpts, jacket is a modified neoprene tunic recolored using fabric paint, pants are army surplus with a few modifications and zippers added. Boots are my hiking boots from North Face which happened to be perfect once the yellow trim was blacked out! Hope you enjoy!

looks awesome! i am making my vest out of real buckles and stuff, will have updates later this week to share ^^

The suit as a whole looks pretty good, especially that hardware! :thumbsup
I see the top is a a yellow and blue neoprene, which is a good alternative to the blue waffle and kevlar weave. The cut is amazing. The sleeve length could've been a longer, and I'm still very adament about the suit being one piece. Overall best replica hands down. :D

Again that hardware is AMAZING! :lol

I have to ask how you came about the suit and hardware, as it must be custom. Looks very spot on.

I have been following this thread for a while and thank everyone for posting hints and tidbits, which helped me make my Mystique flight suit :D

I did use a basic body suit pattern and alter it. Its a one-piece suit. I had to sorta "make" the yellow mesh by putting the yellow mesh fabric on top of a navy blue so you couldn't see through it since at the time I couldn't find any yellow mesh that wasn't transparent. I definitely couldn't sit in it and it was rather warm, but I tried my best to match the fabrics to the best of my ability (including painting the ribbed fabric black since I could only find it in green). A great deal was also hand sewn because of the types of fabrics I found and the multiple layers. What was down right impossible to find were the buckles for the straps - I ended up finding some black ones that were originally on construction knee pads and taking those off to use. I left them black because to paint them might have looked tacky, IMO.

Was quite the project, but I am happy with the results.

Couple questions if you don't mind. First off... Looks absolutely AMAZING! Everyone's XMFC costumes are looking wonderful for that matter :)

1.) What did you use for the scales?
2.) What type of paint did you use?
3.) What kind of mesh fabric did you use for the yellow?

Very exiting everyone.. Keep 'em coming!:thumbsup

1) Its actually hand carved foam - like those sheets of Foamies that are sold at craft stores. I just cut out each scale individually to look like Mystique's then applied them with liquid latex that dried clear.

2) Ben Nye cream makeup. I mixed the blue with a little bit of black to make it the same shade as Mystique's. I also painted over the scales to make it all conform.

3) it was a real thin mesh that was transparent. I'm not exactly sure what kind it was. Again, I sewed it on top of the navy blue fabric in order to not show through to my skin.

Thank you for the compliments! :D
