Wonder Woman: Batman V Superman

I finished this costume a couple months ago but decided to post progress pictures from the build. It was my first big armor project and first time working with Wonderflex.
As I'm sure a lot of people know, there's only one reference photo for the Gal Gadot Wonder Woman from the new Batman V Superman movie, so I had to wing the back. Also the reference picture at the time was not colored, it was that awful sepia filtered photo. So that was fun trying to figure out paint. These were the pictures I broke down to work with.
I used all Wonderflex for the armor and the fabric is two different suedes.


I will be remaking the sword very soon and will post pictures of that as well

I did a duct tape torso pattern first with plastic wrap and duct over. Drew my basic pattern on it and then cut that off. I used those pieces for my basic pattern but did alter a lot of the pieces.
Belt and chest piece
I use craft foam for the shape and base to go under all the Wonderflex.




Bracers
I cut a piece of worbla the shape i need for the front and back piece, the craft foam to go over, heated and molded to it. then wonderflex over it all. I pressed the design in with a sculpting tool. I sealed them with a couple coats of gesso, sanded, primed, then painted with metallic spray paint. I aged them with black acrylic paint and rubbed it in with a paper towel. The straps are suede, the "rivets" are gems I found at hobby lobby with i spray painted silver and attached with super glue. The bracers have 4 pieces of elastic on the inside so I can just slide them on and off. The suede straps have a small piece of velcro on them.

Breast plate time

I used to foam balls to form the cup shape. I will say this about wonderflex, it does not mold more than one direction very well. Getting all the wrinkles out of the base was nearly impossible. Luckily it was all covered. The strips are craft foam and have wonderflex over them and then heated and just pressed onto the base.
Then sealed with gesso, sanded, primed, and painted. You can see where everything was tape for the painting. And the paints I used. The hammered effect was amazing over the metallic paint for the belt and bird piece. I used D rings and straps to wear the plate.

Legs and boots

Wonderflex sections done the same way, craft foam pieces and wonderflex over and heated up with the heat gun and lightly pressed together and formed.
I used wonderflex scrap pieces on the inside to reinforce stress points.
The boots I found at Goodwill for $4! I attached the armor pieces with E6000 glue.
The leg armor attaches to my legs with two pieces of stretch velcro and D rings.

Time for final touches

Tiara, arm band, and skirt.

The skirt is suede and lined it with cotton, I use wonderflex for the armored edges and then painted them with acrylic, which worked out nicely because it added a good weight to the panels and kept them from flopping about. The wonderflex stuck right to the suede when I heated with the heat gun.
The red pieces are odd little hand wraps she has, those are also suede.



The arm band was a real pain... because I know she HAS one.. but there is no picture. So I picked the armband for the New 52 Wonder Woman and went with it.

Exactly why I did it I was super excited when I saw the first image I just couldn't resist.

My sword! My terrible first attempt at a sword. I used foam for the base, I should have used the pink insulation board and resin but I didn't know. So! The new sword will be made from insulation foam board and I'll post pictures of that when I build it!
But this one is foam base, wonder flex. The hilt is EVA foam, wonderflex, worbla, and paperclay. Gesso, primered, and metallic spray painted. Aged with black acrylic paint, dry brushed.

So that is the end of my first armor build My Wonder Woman armor completed. Hopefully I'll have a real shot soon to post, right now I just have convention photos but ya know, you work with ya got Fun fact... shortest Wonder Woman ever. I'm 4'11" LOL

wow that is really good. I am looking at doing this version of wonder woman completely out of leather, but I love how your wonderflex version came out
