Wolverine all day baby! Jackets, belts, claws, oh my.

The painting technique used on a lot of the Mass Effect armor is very simple, easy, low cost, and pretty convincing in photos. You basically paint you item matt black then take some of the small checkered kitchen drawer liner stuff and use a little spray adhesive on one side. Let it dry to where it is tacky and then apply to your item as a paint mask. Then take a gloss black and spray the item and then remove the mask. I can't remember if they leave it this way or if they then spray with a semi gloss or full gloss clear coat. May require some more reading or experimentation to see what you like best.

Ohhh ok, yeah I've seen that method done a few times before. The first time I ever saw it done was on the show 'Musclecar' for a Cuda they were building for a UFC president Dana White, they used this method to paint the hood to give the illusion of carbon fiber. Turned out awesome.

I've got an idea on how to make the print, but it would take literally forever by hand :lol

Where does Wolverine go from here? You've got the Wolverine movies, the original trilogy and First Class - is it possible for all three of those franchises to continue?
Can I take at least a little vacation, please? [Laughs] I'll take the weekend, that's fine. Wolverine: The Musical? No. I don't know. This has been a surprise for me. The Japanese story and that samurai saga, I've been wanting to make that for 10 years. So from here I'm an open book. We'll see. I'll wait until I've been beaten up in some fight scenes which are coming up very soon, and maybe I'll want a longer vacation.

Heyhey I got it! Heron came through with my jacket. Fits exactly as I had hoped, just need to beat the hell out of it now. I notice that it sort of "feels" too short down to the waist, but it looks right; I hate the look when jackets that should be short go down to the thighs, which is an issue that my height contributes to a lot with off-the-rack jackets. Pics to come as soon as I can take some.

Glad to hear they worked it all out and it fits as well as you needed....

Now go get some photos while it's cold enough to wear it out! Heh....I'd love to see!

ive been wearing my Vanson X1 but I'm thinking of taking some conditioner to it, just to soften some areas up. Any recommendations?

70s Wolverine DOFP belt project in the works with Indy Magnoli minus the belt buckle because we want to see some high res shots of it in better detail ;) Stay tuned! I'm hoping if there's enough interest we can get a run on these to make it cheaper. Who would honestly wear this awesome belt?

Yes indeed...There are several different oils out there for different leathers, all have plus points to them...I choose Pecards because it's overall fairly reliable for all the different leather types I wear..So it's something I know won't do anything I'm not ready for to the jacket....But entirely, there are other brands and products out there...Lexol is also fairly decent I've heard....

I have and will always use Lexol leather conditioner. I personally swear by it. Others use Pecards leather dressing to soften and protect as well.

Can't wait to see photographic results, Primo.

While I wait for a time and place and someone to take pics of my Heron X1, I don't have time to search the whole thread really but what's everyone's favorite method to soften and add a little distress? I don't want to risk any shrinking since it fits nicely, so I think that rules out things like the dryer and shower, no?

Wore it to work today; I felt so conspicuous since it's so very brand new and obviously Wolvie's jacket, but nobody's mentioned it, heh.

I put my Vanson x1 in the washing machine and dryer. It laughed at them both lol, but it came out looking and feeling more worn in. Also left some cool distressing marks. Not sure how a Heron would do? I'd start with a shower that way it will form to you more, just like getting caught in a heavy rain. Can't wait to see pics!

Showering with the jacket would flood the pores of the skin with water, beyond what they're "naturally" used to...Then drying that water quickly with heat and air in the dryer would lead to the pores shrinking...This happens even with natural "sun drying", but the process is sped up in the dryer, and it's this process that leads to the shrinking.....Any leather will be subject to this, but different skins will react differently, depending on their origins and conditioning...The leather that Vanson use is well treated and strong enough to not shrink that much in the process...

Since you're asking about other methods, apart from the shower one, it's obvious you've already considered it.......For something less "risky" than showering with the jacket, to soften and distress most leathers, I'd suggest that you're coming down to more "natural" methods...You obviously don't want to shrink the jacket, so covering it with water and rapidly drying it is out, but to soften the skin, there are a couple of ways to work the leather in...You could try sleeping in the thing...If it's not too "weird" to you? Zip it up and sleep in it...You won't notice much distressing, but the heat and movement overnight does help a little in pushing the jacket to adapt to YOUR body...It won't add any drastic lines or look to it? But you may find some interesting folds and bends, and the 7 or so hours in it will wear the "newness" out, in a rather shorter time than "normal" wear? (If you have a wife...She'll be pissed....Be aware of that one...)

Also, you could try heat and rubbing....Again, it sounds weird, but leather is a skin, like your own, and when heated up, and rolled on, it "loosens" out some...Like warming up before doing sports...If you mix the two things, rolling motions over the leather, with heat? You'll be working the skin in more, and getting what I suspect you want in the jacket reaction...

Aside from that, there are many good ways to wear it out or distress it, artificially...I tried a couple of these recently with my Wested Lamb Indy jacket...So if you want some ideas on that? Let me know and I'll throw out what worked cool for me in a later post....But since you seem to be asking about ways to just wear in the skin a touch, that'll work...No need to shower with it...Just naturally warm up the jacket, and roll the skin back and forth until it loosens up...If that doesn't do enough, bag it up, and sleep on it, and if you want more, then try a night or two wearing it....

I've done all those with jackets at various points, and depending on what you want, they all have decent returns...None of them will shrink the jacket either, which showering may well do...So avoid that..(But you knew that already)...

Regards..

Eh the Heron might not hold up in the shower, I remember Drool speaking of his leaking dye and havin a weird smell or somthin while he was distressing it. Far as a Vanson , showers, washers, and dryers only made it better, unless you dig the brand new stiff shiney shiney boxy look. I'd love to have a Heron and beat it to hell to get it that real X 1 look. Slowly getting there with my Vanson but it seems there's an exoskeleton painted on this thing lol!

So I decided to parody this image...Think I succeeded weapon X style.

I had to dress up a little for school today so I went with "The Wolverine look" with the denim shirt and pants, so I had to put the claws on and get some photos. haha

The pants and shirt are Dockers and "close enoughs", I had them way before the movie. They look a little like what Hugh wore though. The boots are screen accurate of course.

comonbub: I love the idea of getting the 70's belt made! I agree that we don't have good enough photos of the buckle, so we should wait on that. This is the best pic I could get from the trailer, but it is blurry. Most of the promo pictures don't show the buckle good either.

PrimoOptimoso: I can't wait to see your jacket and I'm glad you finally have it!
