Wolverine all day baby! Jackets, belts, claws, oh my.

I'm a hater! Bone claws - uhg, what a way to water down the character. He's an experiment by the Canadian Government to make the ultimate killing machine. They take a violent man with a healing ability and turn him into the ultimate killing machine by lacing his bone with an unbreakable metal AND giving him razor sharp claws.

The idea of the bone claws makes no sense, they'd be too brittle, being as long as they are and if they just laced his bones with adamantium, why don't the claws look like metal bones?

I agree, the bone claws don't make sense. But wait, come to think of it, neither do the metal ones, kinda...

They bolted adamantium to him to make him physically unbreakable; I do not remember, though, if they added the claws as discrete pieces attached to muscles for extension and retraction.

The only way to have *both* sets of claws make sense, is for him to be able to extrude skeletal material by neuro-muscular impulse. You know, uh, like Spike's mutant ability. Then whether the bone had metal grafted to it or not he'd be able to do his thing.

Well here is my take... if the military gave him the claws then as PrimoOptimoso said, how would Logan be able to extend and retract the claws? So the military put the claws in his arms and then gave him extra muscles and tendons so that he could do that. That is not really belivable to me.
So the bone claws makes a little more sense in the way that he was born with bones that extend and retract as part of his genetic mutation. As you see in Wolverine Origins the bone claws get broken off in a fight with Sabertooth. So the military grafts the adamantium claws onto the remaining bones or maybe replaces the bones with the adamantium claws when they turn him into the killing machine. This makes more sense to me and explains why his claws don't look like metal bones.

Of course it is all silly speculation because even though the adamantium can't break we have seen his muscle tissue get blown away (and regenerate) but what I am getting at is that the strength of the claws would be weakened by being connected via muscle tissue and tendons. Think about trying to scrape something with some long fingernails. Ouch! You won't be able to scrape much without pulling your nails out.

I would love an explanation for that. How is he able to cut through thick metal doors and giant robots? You would think that his flesh would not be able to withstand that stress without ripping. ;)

You guys ask too many questions and that's how it ruins the fanatical aspect of the movie for you guys...Stop thinking! Bone claws make more sense, the surgical claws never did to me because of his healing factor. One does not simply cut wolverine open to stick claws in. Anywho, I have high expectations for this movie...And now that VAUGHN just dropped out of X-MEN: DOFP with Singer being the runner up again, I don't think this will be the last time we see him as Wolverine.

It looks good man!
I wish I had the patience to do that.
Although I did just get my stylinonline wolverine hoodie hahah its hilarious. The hood turns into a mask...

Hey no way - I am still a huge fan of the character and the movies! Even a bad comic book movie is better than most good other-genre movies =0)

You know, that is a REALLY great looking jacket for the price! It's got the leather of a Wested by the looks and feel of my Vanson XO with the shape to it. Not a bad find.

Update on The Wolverine: It's been confirmed it happens DIRECTLY after X3 which eliminates the stand-alone movie statement Jackman recently put out there. Famke Janssen just flew to the Aussie set...Hmmmm I wonder why? (Cameo confirmed) How the hell she's still alive makes no sense but I'm down. New Official Image From THE WOLVERINE Revealed We'll also be getting bone claws in the flashback by this POW well image from a magazine. I'm really liking the looks of this movie so far, its showing ...comicbookmovie.com seems to give the most updates on the movie fyi. Haters gonna hate.

Yeah, that's what I thought. Even though the shape I wasn't sure of. Seemed too wide around the waste. And they never say which sized jacket is on the pic, which would be helpful sometimes...

Anyway, I ended up ordering this jacket:
Xmen Wolverine Logans x Men Origins XO Fine Quality Leather Jacket | eBay
by a seller called taurian218.
I can't recommend it. The sizing is off, I ordered an XS and it's way too short. The sleeves are not 25" as they claim, the waste is too short also. The quality of the leather is ridiculous, even though I chose Real Leather from the two types, the other one being Faux Leather, even the 'real' one seems very faux to me. So I'm gonna return it, get a refund and not dress up this year, I had too many things going on, didn't have enough time to prepare. (I'm an actor and Halloween is like an acting project to me, I like to take care of the costume things months ahead and then just focus on the inner character. Next year...it's gonna be something. Something awesome. I'll probably save up for a Logan's Closet X-1 or XO jacket.

I didn't know Heron made a heavier weight version! While I am very happy with my lightweight version, and while it is perfect for costuming at Cons...and while the fit is excellent...while it's a nice lightweight jacket...

I'd go for a heavier weight version. Especially for everyday wear.

Yep. $189 vs $350.

I'm curious, why would you go for a biker jacket for everyday wear over a fashion one?

Nice! I like both "teaser posters" that have been shown (though I believe that first with the Rising Sun and claw is not being used)

I like this, but I wish it had the title of the movie down at the bottom written in the same fashion. Btw, does anybody know why dan keeps getting banned? Saw his X jacket post earlier.

So for those of you that have made your own claws... did you make one claw and mold the rest?

I'm debating on what approach I want to take for mine. I have the pep files all cut and ready to glue for all 6 claws however I'm debating on going the molding route to try and save some time and headache(not that i've ever done molding hhaha)

Also I was thinking that if I mold them I could make some copies for my family and friends.

I had a friend make my claws, but I think he used a mold. Pretty simple that way...?
I'm sorry I can't really help more than that! :(

I'm so excited for all the new Wolverine promos! The poster is absolutely stunning- it looks like they're taking the right approach to the film, which is wonderful.

And as far as bone claws go, I feel like they make more sense natural than as an addition. I agree with the idea that his body would reject them otherwise due to his natural healing ability. And as far as stress on the muscles and all that goes- what about Sabertooth? He literally has long nails. Or Lady Deathstrike? That would be painful. Claws coming out of your fist rather than your fingers would be much better, I think. And more effective... haha

I don't think you will get good results with the pepakura claws. If you make a model and then mold it you will end up with claws that are exactly the same which is a good thing. Plus the urethane casting resin makes some really good claws. They are ridged enough to look real but not so ridged that they would be considered a weapon. Although, you could probably do some damage with them anyways. Check out the link in my signature for some more info on this process.

If you did make them one by one then you should use a ridged material to start with. I have read about people using plexiglass. Wood is easier to sand and paint but it is not as strong as plexiglass.

Or you could just order a set from me... I am still taking orders in my for sale thread. ;)

Yeah, I am stoked about The Wolverine too.

As for the other characters with claws... what you say is true. The only thing that I would say differently is that Sabertooth has shorter claws so they wouldn't have as much leverage force against them. The other thing that came to mind with the fingers is that maybe his claws are actually part of his finger bone... more like a horn vs a finger nail.... and I don't know what to say about deathstrike... those nails just don't make any sense at all... but still if they are attached to the bone then they would be stronger.

Now for wolverine... maybe his claws pop out and then 'lock' in place between the bones in his hands... and since his bones are unbreakable... that may explain a little of why he can cut through doors and stuff.

Anyways, just a little speculation just for fun. lol I am not too serious about everything not being plausible or possible. lol It is fiction after all.
