Wolverine all day baby! Jackets, belts, claws, oh my.

Late to the party

. AnHi guys,

I found this site by chance after my umpteenth night of Googling Wolverine jackets. And I'm very grateful, not only 'cause you guys know whatcha talking about but also, as a big movie buff, I can see this site being very useful for me :)

I admit, I haven't read all the pages in this thread. My eyes glazed over around p30 so I skipped to the end and saw that Jeggs was still around (your posts and his responses are leading me towards placing an order with Heron).

Anyway, just a couple of questions if you don't mind.

1) Superdrool, I saw your pics on p2 (very nice jacket & poses) and later read that you're 5' 5". Is this right? You look taller in your pics. I ask because at 5' 8" I am worried I may be too short to pull off a Wolverine jacket but you do it with aplomb.

2) I understand from this thread that Vanson are the best and sell for $600 but days earlier I discovered Wolverine Jackets Home Page and it featured a video of what appears to be the same guy in the same clothes but their jackets are $300. Has Dan gone solo or is this just a doppelganger?

3) I'm not a rider so would, in theory, be leaning towards a fashion jacket but from what I recall of X Men, Logan's jackets seemed very sturdy and thick:

Like here

And I am concerned that a think fashion jacket would crease up too much and ruin the look. Can anyone with a fashion jacket confirm or allay these fears?

4) I am getting nowhere with Heron customer service. Broken English and not answering all my questions. Is there anyway to speak direct to Jeggs or Miguel as people here have mentioned both are eager to keep communication open all throughout production to ensure you get a jacket just how you want it.

5) On the off chance I win the lottery and can afford a Vanson, can someone explain why I should go for one over a Heron? Is it quality, fit, brand naming?

Thx

Comparing Vanson with Heron- two vastly different jackets. Vastly.

Vanson is extremely high quality, motorcyle wearing jacket. Wears like armor and looks just friggin superb. I've seen it weathered with a sandblaster, it's magnificent. Costs alot. I do wish I could have a Vanson one day!

Heron- looks good, lightweight, NOT good for riding motorcycles with- is basically a lightweight jacket, good for mild weather and excellent for costuming.

I have a Heron and love it.
I've gotten lots of compliments on the jacket. Fit is perfect.

It's all about what exactly are you looking for, and what is your budget?

BH is right in general, but also know that Heron will make you a heavier weight jacket on request, like SuperDrool's custom X2 is heavier leather than their standard jacket "fashion weight" leather.

For half the money, I would buy a Heron myself (and will, when I can!) but if money's no object the Vansons are top notch.

Definitely not Dan, and that X0 seems a trifle long in the waist to me.
I've never owned a Heron but I own three Vansons from Logan's Closet. A better jacket you cannot find. If you are interested in researching the jackets read through the postings here on the RPF and then head over to
FILMJACKETS.COM
There is so much information over there on the various Wolverine jackets it will take you days to read through it all.

I picked up a used a Vanson from a member here and LOVE it. I have not worn a Heron for comparison, but the weight and fit of my jacket are absolutely perfect and the PO even took the time to distress it as well. I agree that if you can afford it, go for the Vanson.

I agree with everyone else

[Hi guys! It's been a while. ]

I have a Heron which I wore to San Diego Comic-Con this summer and it worked perfectly. Not too heavy and it held up really well. If you're not looking for anything super heavy duty than I'd say Heron is a safe bet.

The Heron (I just have a basic one, nothing extra thick or anything like that) is still good leather and doesn't crease or do anything weird. It's nice stuff. :)

Here's a pic or two if that helps at all?

[random ones but they show the jacket a little? also linked because I didn't want huge pics on here]

My jacket's a little big for me since I'm a lady but I like it a lot. :) Definitely not stiff leather, but if you want to be able to move in it well I think it does the trick.

I hope that helps!

Also- looks great IFA!

I'll chime in as superdrool hasn't. I also own the Heron X2 custom made in extra heavy leather. I imagine its around 1.3mm. I do wear it as my primary motorcycle jacket and it has broken in great. I haven't seen any of Dan's Wolverine Vanson's in person, but I have seen Vanson's in person and they are ridiculously thick, stiff leather (when new) that can break in to have a ton of character and withstand a whole lot of abuse. I would highly recommend my Heron but if you have a motorcycle you may want to spring for the extra protection and durability.

Jorge is a member on here, just PM him and he should email you back. It took me about 3 months to have my jacket in hand and it fits like a glove. No regrets. It also only cost around $300 which is half of a Vanson.

I definitely have some Vanson's in my future to purchase, but I'm still very happy with my Jacket.

I will say that the lining in my Heron jacket is not great (I had my phone in the inside pocket all day at Comic-Con and the lining in that area got super warped from rubbing against my shirt)... But the leather and the exterior of the jacket are of great quality, it's just the lining that should be a little thicker. :/

Hopefully the new X1 has some nice lining! That's my only complaint with my Heron right now.
I'm interested to see how it comes along, because I'd definitely consider getting another- and custom this time. :)

I had a Wested XO and Vanson X1, currently have a OLF X3, Vanson X2 and Vanson XO...I really couldn't tell you about Heron but I wasn't a fan of the Wested because it started falling apart. Though the OLF is really high up there in price, the thing is a tank like all my Vansons...But for me, my favorite is Vanson. They age nicely and feel really great against you if you ride.

Oh, man. Reading every post is exhausting....and I've gotta wake up in a few hours. Anyway, I tried to look up everything you guys talked about, all the references and everything and since Vanson doesn't manufacture their version anymore, Logan's Closet is awesome but I can't afford it currently. I was wondering where I could get a Heron jacket? Cause what I found is this:
Men Leather Jacket Style

But this differs very much from what one of you posted with him wearing it! That jacket looked awesome, so I'm a bit confused I guess. Was that a special request customization on the same jacket on their website or....did I miss something?

BH, and everyone else, thanks for the responses! Miss Wolverine, great photos and thanks for providing them.

For those of you who've ordered custom fit jackets, what changes are you making? Is it to the sleeves, the length, the chest? And what made you go custom as opposed to buying stock?

Thx

Finally something I can help with instead of asking questions! Heron do the X-1 and Origins jackets and they are identical to what you see in the film.

Here are pics they sent me:

Fashion version:

Biker version:

Both look identical to me. There is also an eBayer who is a reseller of Heron jackets (though I am buying direct through Heron and talking to Jorge right now).

I didn't know Heron made a heavier weight version! While I am very happy with my lightweight version, and while it is perfect for costuming at Cons...and while the fit is excellent...while it's a nice lightweight jacket...

I'd go for a heavier weight version. Especially for everyday wear.

You know, that is a REALLY great looking jacket for the price! It's got the leather of a Wested by the looks and feel of my Vanson XO with the shape to it. Not a bad find.

Update on The Wolverine: It's been confirmed it happens DIRECTLY after X3 which eliminates the stand-alone movie statement Jackman recently put out there. Famke Janssen just flew to the Aussie set...Hmmmm I wonder why? (Cameo confirmed) How the hell she's still alive makes no sense but I'm down. New Official Image From THE WOLVERINE Revealed We'll also be getting bone claws in the flashback by this POW well image from a magazine. I'm really liking the looks of this movie so far, its showing ...comicbookmovie.com seems to give the most updates on the movie fyi. Haters gonna hate.

I'm a hater! Bone claws - uhg, what a way to water down the character. He's an experiment by the Canadian Government to make the ultimate killing machine. They take a violent man with a healing ability and turn him into the ultimate killing machine by lacing his bone with an unbreakable metal AND giving him razor sharp claws.

The idea of the bone claws makes no sense, they'd be too brittle, being as long as they are and if they just laced his bones with adamantium, why don't the claws look like metal bones?

I agree, the bone claws don't make sense. But wait, come to think of it, neither do the metal ones, kinda...

They bolted adamantium to him to make him physically unbreakable; I do not remember, though, if they added the claws as discrete pieces attached to muscles for extension and retraction.

The only way to have *both* sets of claws make sense, is for him to be able to extrude skeletal material by neuro-muscular impulse. You know, uh, like Spike's mutant ability. Then whether the bone had metal grafted to it or not he'd be able to do his thing.
