First things first,

Bryar Pistol pepakura file download link. (< google drive)
(THIS UNFOLD IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE. I COULD (probably) MAKE IT EASIER)

ALSO THE AUTHOR OF THIS MODEL IS UNKNOWN. IF YOU RECOGNIZE THIS PEPAKURA AS YOUR OWN, LET ME KNOW SO I CAN CREDIT YOU.

PEPAKURA DIFFICULTY RATING: (

Ok now that you got that we can begin.

I've been making some pepakura things for a little while now (currently working on a storm trooper build that is coming a long nicely) and A friend asked if I could find a design for the Bryar pistol from Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II, a game that we both loved.

For those of you who don't know about thing weapon, It's the first gun you use in each Dark Forces and Jedi Knight game and unfortunately the worst in the game. It was the main weapon of the protagonist, Kyle Katarn.

Another note about the gun it is a modified version of the
Bryar Rifle (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a322/inyri/bscreen1.jpg), which after staring at reference pictures all day , looked ridicules. But enough about that...

I looked everywhere for this elusive file. I saw a couple posts on it and some people had it, but their posts where to old to peruse. Even Dunge0beetle had on on his site but, alas, the download links were hijacked and led to a survey scam site.
Finally after a couple days of searching, i found a .pdo on a Russian site and using google translate on it I had my file! but it was unfolded :c
So after learning how to and eventually unfolding it (which was surprisingly relaxing) I have the completed file before me. On to peping it out!

First think i noticed, the model I unfolded was made in a lot of pieces instead of mostly one or two that you would attach normally with flaps. As shown
x04c9pl.jpg(yes, even the trigger is it's own separate, little piece)

This ,in my opinion, makes each part harder to make and altogether slightly weaker than it would be if everything was attached by flaps. But there are workarounds for that when finishing the piece comes around. Just got to be a little creative.
Each section of the blaster was fairly simple (mostly boxes or other common shapes in pep) but the kicker was the barrel area of the gun.

0oh3CJd.jpgwow that's a complicated looking picture... bare with me.

I set up the barrel so that there would be a base (green) and fingers(red, blue and pink) would extend out and back to the other side of he base. The corn-looking pieces are the bumps in the barrel.

This interlocking pattern was to give it strength and while it did that, it was also a pain in the butt to put together.

Each hump took almost 20 minutes to cut out, glue together and glue onto the base. And note that the entire thing curled with each hump. I plan on fixing that by spacing the humps out and gluing the entire thing to a flat hard surface before rondo-ing the inside.

A much easier way to to this would be to make the blaster out of wood or foam in some places and i knew this before starting this project but I though I'd take it upon myself to pep it.

Here are all the finished pieces laid out.

MQNAayM.jpgthe barrel has a piece of tape stuck to the top of it to straighten it out for the shot.

And here they are taped together for a temporary feel of the finished product.

I will update more, tomorrow possibly, when i start the hardening process.

So it took a little thought but i've (roughly) figured out what I'll be doing to strengthen and affix the pieces together
EUnhHei.jpg
I hardened each of these pieces with a coat or two of rondo inside and resin on the outside. When it's dried, I rounded off the edges with a file. I also added red spray paint just to see what it would look like

Im....not stop sure why foam was needed.... :s
It had the strength I wanted, plus if I need to repair a break through, it's now impossible.

Here are some more pics of what I've done so far. I will probably use apoxy (if it doesn't melt instant foam) and bonds to fix pieces together and smooth out seems, but that won't be done until I've finished most or all of the pieces.

Also I'm out of fiberglass resin. To the store then. :s

New Progress. I've hardened all the pieces and have glued some together

The ribbed pieced had to be filed quite a bit and I even had to add resin to one end to make it even.

To add strength, I cut a cardboard tube to use a the barrel. The real gun may not have actually had a barrel at all but this will ensure that the pieces won't break apart. (The barrel is fairly heavy now.)

All the small pieces where easiest to do when they where filled entirely with resin. Pretty much any excess left after coating a part.

I measured and marked where the barrel will enter the rest of the pieces and cut the holes so that they are snug. And the little end that sticks out will be going into the piece above the trigger.

To add extra strength to the handle, I drilled holes and added a dowel and glued.

Next will be adding filler to some cracks, filing, painting, gluing. and the harder parts will be adding the cover for the underside of the barrel and the details that weren't in the pepakura.
