WIP: ANH Jawa

Haven't been on the forums in while, but since my first post back in March about my ROTS Vader (Link: www.therpf.com/f24/completed-rots-vader-darth_knight1-81735/) I've joined the 501st Legion, created a second costume (a TK/Stormtrooper), and am now trying to finish up a Jawa costume. This one is for my girlfriend so that we can get her accepted into both the 501st Legion and the Rebel Legion and trooping as an official member.

Still waiting on a more accurate robes (already on order) and looking to add some extras (e.g., leather blaster holster) but wanted to submit some of the WIP pics. Enjoy!

Re: ANH Jawa WIP

Here's some pics from the mask construction. Started with a cheap hockey mask, used a Dremel to cut out holes for the Jawa eyes, then attached two gemstones to small PVC pipes, which protrude outward. I covered the original eyeholes on the mask with some black rubber "slipguard" material found in the 'Kitchen' section at Wal-Mart (Note: This is the material you place inside your kitchen cupboards to prevent dishes from touching the bare cabinet surface). After that, bought two PantherVision LED hats, tore out the LEDs themselves and placed them behind the gemstone to illuminate the eyes. Although it's not pictured here, I later added black crushed panne fabric (purchased from JoAnn's) to the rest of the mask so that the wearer's face was completely hidden. Didn't take pics of the entire mask building process, but here's what I was able to capture...

Re: ANH Jawa WIP

The bandoliers and ammo pouches were purchased via eBay and Int'l Military Antiques (Link: www.ima-usa.com), an online military supply store. Although I haven't attached fur to them yet, the gloves are basic brown gardening gloves purchased from Home Depot...

Awesome, one day my son will be a Jawa ... when he can handle wearing that much gear. How old is the person this will be worn by?

Re: ANH Jawa WIP

Eventually upgraded the blaster to an awesome 1:1 replica purchased via eBay. This one was made from an actual Enfield and modded accordingly...

Still waiting on more accurate robes to arrive, then planning on fraying and weathering costume as needed. Here are some "action shot" pics taken recently of my girlfriend wearing the costume at this year's Dragon*Con. She loved it, and it was a blast seeing people's reactions to the costume.

Re: ANH Jawa WIP

where did you get those fake gemstones? If you don't mind me asking what would you say your total breakdown of cost minus the Blaster is. I have seen those on ebay and are sharp. Blastmaster on FISD makes a nice blaster too

I actually just bought the gemstones from my local Wal-Mart. Can't remember the exact section I bought them from, but it was the one with all the home decorations stuff. Bag was only $2-3 and included fake gemstones in various shapes and multiple colors: ruby (the color pictured above), white and yellow.

Ballparking, I'd say I have about $250-300 invested in this one so far. That doesn't include the new robes (on order now) or the blaster. If I knew then what I knew now, I probably could've gotten to the same result for $50-$75 bucks less.

I agree with you about the Blastermaster blasters. I'm also a member over on FISD and if I hadn't come across the 1:1 reproduction, I would've seriously considered grabbing one of them!

Re: ANH Jawa WIP

I always enjoy jawa threads...:cool Yours is very creative and you were fortunate to have found the Enfield on ebay. :thumbsup They're pretty rare nowadays.

Re: ANH Jawa WIP

Thanks for the encouraging words everyone! Waiting on a leather blaster holster and still need to attach hose connecting "power pack" to handle of gun, but making progress. We also upgraded the robe to a more ANH-authentic one. Here are a few more pics of the almost-finished costume...

Hi all,

Recently updated a few items on my girlfriend's costume and took some new pics, so wanted to post them here. We basically purchased a new robe (almost exact same as the old one, just a more brownish color) and also added a leather blaster holster. Even though it's heavier and more stuff to troop in, we both really like the new look of it. Forgot to take close-up pics of the new holster, but will post some soon. Enjoy the new pics!
