WIP: 1/2 scale WALL•E

I've had access to a workshop this week, so I've thrown together the beginnings of a 1/2 scale WALL•E. He'll still be pretty big - around 2' with the tracks down.

I have used Jerry's drawings from the Builder's Group, plus a tonne of reference pics.

He is mostly styrene, chemiwood and acrylic over an MDF box. The finer details of the control have been lasercut/etched in 3mm acrylic

I lasercut a kit for the eyes that locks the camera lenses in place. These are mounted backwards. The top lenses are from 60mm magnfiying glasses.

I have also had the kits for the tread mechanism cut, but I'll get round to that once the head and arms are done. I am going to make his little pet bug to sit on his shoulder....how cute! :)

I'm really looking forward to painting this, he is gonna be filthy.

Wasn't really a big fan of the movie, but this is an incredible idea and I love the progress so far. Can't wait to see Wall~E all put together.

A workshop of modern manufacturing tools is a real treat and licence to make almost anything you want. Lovely work, I love the clean cut lines of it all.

Thanks for the kind words. I love being on my own time in a well equipped workshop. I can't afford to do it too much at the moment though. The work rate drops when I'm at home.

I am only going to put simple lights in at this time. I am looking at getting some yellow EL for the solar charge level.

I have glued together and painted the eyes. They are ready to have their skins fitted.

I made a little progress today and starting to piece together the eyes:

I've lasercut the graphics on gloss coated card. This will be glued on and sealed once the base coats have been applied to the body:

...and I made a BNL badge for the rear:
