Who is this "Sidkit" and why don't I own his Mal Reynolds pistol?

Good for you Kadajiroth, useful to know! What would have happened if you hadn't done that though?

Thanks!

If I didn't, well, I wouldn't have received it I guess, and they would have confiscated it. I was originally just going to order it and gamble my few hundred $ I spent on it, because I thought there was no other way (I called the police first and they said "it's completely up to the customs guy that handles your stuff," and they didn't even mention the B709 form), but the customs guy I talked to was extremely helpful, and he e-mailed me the form.

Has anyone in Ohio (US), or near it, ordered a kit, and received it? I ordered mine on June 21st, and I haven't received anything yet. I know, it hasn't been an inordinate amount of time, but I though I would ask. Also, how is it usually shipped? (USPS, UPS, FEDX, etc.) Just so I know what to be looking for.

As for the serenity Magazines (clips, cartridges, what ever. :lol) I asked for an extra (regular) one, when I placed my order, and he said he would through it in for free. Maybe, those of use that have done this, could mod out the extra one.

Not to get off topic, but does anyone have pics of the piece added to one side of the serenity version of this gun. (I'm just curious to see if is anything worth bothering with, or not.)

Sid most likely uses the Italian post office (which I would assume works with the USPS). Don't worry about the time. These things usually only take ten days or so but can take up to 4 weeks if it's a slow period. July-August is vacation time here on this side of the pond and things generally slow down a bit.

I got most of my kit over the weekend, and it is the absolute hotness. I got everything but the screws below the barrel, the screws that hold the barrel on the gun, and the clip. Everything I received I have already buffed, blued and assembled. I can't wait for the rest of it! And the walnut grip group order!!

Unfortunately, I also cancelled my order with QMX. I have no ill will toward anyone there, but it's been a long, long wait with almost no communication. I might still get their Serenity version of the pistol if it comes out, looks good, and I think the piece is worth the price, but I'm quite concerned about QMX.

Congrats. Firstly, pics! :lol

My kit's still coming, I bet I'll receive mine as soon as everyone has finished their kits and are onto other projects. :lol

I didn't place an order for QMx' Serenity version of the pistol, but if I see it looks really good, I'll get that version too; it would look awesome in a display with the Firefly version! Still eagerly waiting on updates for it.

My camera's not the best in the world with color when I shoot indoors, but here's what I have done so far.

That's just Blue Wonder. Pretty cool stuff. I've used Perma Blue before, but that gives you a more gray color. The Perma Blue looked really bronzy at first, so I hit it with the developer thinking that would "freeze" the color as it was, but it's settled into a more gray tone than I'd prefer.

Just received my kit, and I have to say; wow! It is so amazing, and actually bigger than I thought it would be, the weight of it is really good. It's kit No. 005 out of the 250, too. :love

I got the 2 extra magazines I requested, as well, which were free-of-charge. Sid is such a nice guy. :thumbsup I'll post some pictures once I've done some work on it.

Funny thing is, customs didn't even contact me about it, not at all. I just went to the PO and picked it up like I do with regular parcels. So I got that B709 form for nothing, basically. :lol I guess Australian customs are more lenient than I thought they were, the kit was even 80% built already!

I sifted through my packing peanuts again last night and found the last few screws and pieces I thought were missing. They were all there, but small enough for me to miss in the box the first time (even with thorough digging). To those who are missing pieces, try dumping out all the foam and sifting through it.

Oh, and Sid does, indeed, rock!

Yeah, I thought my screws and smaller pieces were missing, but after about half and hour of searching I found it at the bottom under one of the flaps of the box. I was going to tip the lot out, but I couldn't be bothered gathering them all up again. :lol

It is such a great kit, I can't say enough good about it. I haven't had time to work on mine yet, but I've been playing around with it for a while, and it's gorram heavy. I'll be able to post something constructive over at the build thread, now that I actually have the kit. :lol

I've just gotten the OK to register here at RPF.

I've been reading this thread and the other Sid's threads for some time, and it was the great RPF members who informed me of that wonderful SidKik of Capt. Mal's pistol ( I have #45). I also learned how to finish the kit with a wide varietys of blueing / browning agents, paints, and rubbed on finishes. I also learned of the upcoming walnut pistol grips and other building tips. I just want to thank all of you for the wonderful help and advice you've given me.

Here is a piece of information I got from a Gun Blueing professional. If you are haveing problems with the finish rubbing off, the main reason is that there is still oil from handeling on the pieces. He suggested a four step process. First clean the parts with acetone, then wash in hot water with Dawn and scrub with a stiff paint brush. Next dunk the part in a pan of boiling water, then repeat with yet a second pan of boiling water. After this NEVER handle with your bare hands. Use rubber gloves while blueing and finishing. If you are using steel wool, go through the same proccess for removing oil. A pad of steel wool can have as much as a teaspoon of oil in it.

All blueing agents work best with ferris metals, and this gun kit is a "white metal" kit, and is a non ferris metal.
