Who builds sabers anymore?

I imagine that when the MR Vader prices plummet (like they will...) it'll be cheaper to just get the MR, but I REALLY want a weathered real Graflex version. And it's easier for me to buy a little bit here and there. And it's a bit more economical for me since I need a clamp that I can scavenge when I get the Graflex, so I won't have to buy that later. It's all good.

I've seriously bought MR sabers for less than I've spent on scratchbuilds. It's just a matter of upfront cost versus cost over time. I'm always saving five or ten bucks a week, plus odds and ends from ebay income and so forth, that way when a killer deal comes along, I often have the cash to jump on it.

I like making them, I dont have a single MR saber...

I am working on an ANH Obi wan now..

I built my ANH luke from all real parts minus the grips, though the ones from saberfreak are darn close

Cool. I'm not the only one who's building/built an Obi ANH style saber. Mine, of course, looks different enough to be a unique design so I call it the Darryn Starkiller lightsaber, named after one of the characters in my now abandoned fan fic.

Custom here. All the 1:1 sabers I own are customs. I have no desire whatsoever to own MR fullsize replicas. Not to mention that I'm 2D art major and enjoy working on these types of projects to break up the 2 dimensional work. I have a few of the MR minis because they represent the full size sabers I have yet to get to round out my collection. They serve the purpose of gazing at least - an intrepretation of the saber. Once I get the fullsize custom versions of these mini's, I'll pass them on to my sons to play with and ding the crap out of.

1. Custom SA ROTJ v2
2. Larbel Vader
3. Roman's Obi ROTS/ANH hybrid
4. Roman's weathered ROTS/ANH hybrid
5. Hez TPM Obi
6. Custom Qui gon from an Unknown maker

Not much, but good enough for now. Not to mention yet again, these are works of art from my point of view- whether someone milled it or factory made, or customized by the buyer but fabricated by someone else(nice way of looking at a "blank"). It's like hand blown glass and mold blown production glass. There's a HUGE difference despite what the eye might catch when viewing the two side by side.
In my eyes these are the names amongst names in the saber art world. I'd love to own a Stormpath QGJ, and I might one day even spring for a Luuke saber, don't know which one- regardless of his own quality control issues, at the end of the day he's still Luuke. I'd even like to have a few Serafino parts, because his dedication to accuracy and if I could find a good Chen I wouldn't mind having it either and everyone here probably knows about 5postboy. There's probably others too, but that gets my point across...However, I had a Park's Graflex and sold it some time ago and have been on his boycott list ever since. No plans to move from it.

My two cents... Nice thread BTW

I return with a picture of my two scratch built sabers.
One Anakin AOTC, made from PVC pipe and styrene sheet, and one Luke ROTJ hand machined from a solid steel rod.
The Luke is actualy my first attempt at scrath building. I had a full machine shop handy for that. The Anakin is my attempt at a simple home made project.

More pictures are available in my threads Here and here.

I don't know if you consider a custom-built saber necessarily machined and molded down to every part, and then hand assembled, but I have been working on a project that involves scaling every single part, and providing the numbers to the machinist. Believe me, if I had a lathe at my disposal and the training, I would do it myself.

Wow. Brevin, I haven't seen you here in a long time. The last time I saw you around was when I contacted you through Chris (AKA Yoda201). Do you two still keep in touch?

I finally have a metal lathe of my very own ;) as well as a mill and wood lathe and...and...

'Tis exciting...

Hey, Brevin...great to see you here.

my esb luke saber was put together from as many original parts as i could get a hold of easily...

the blaster is a buildup from a denix, but i didn't do anything there... just bought it as-is.

my vader saber is a buildup from a parks mpp, but again, i got that as-is.

the graflex is the only one i've done anything on myself.

Ive been on a bit of a sabre building spree recently. Ive got a lot of friends who costume here as Jedi so I offered to make Luxeon led based sabres for anyone who wanted them. Kept me busy over christmas rather than watching repeats of old movies on tv.

Thanks Caymen. That 3rd one was built for a chap that costumes as Revan. He sent me what ref pics he could find and that was the design I came up with after some artisitc interpretation :)

Its changed ever so slightly since the pic as Ive added some leather binding to the lower black grip areas.

Vader'74 - do I see wooden grips on one of your sabers? If so, then that's a pretty cool idea. Any larger shots of it?

I build all of my sabers whether they are made of aluminum pipe, pvc and/or bondo.

I get some parts like a clamp here or some bubbles there, but I construct them myself. Here is an out dated picture. I have many more now.

Been working on revamping an old one of mine the past few days. A prettified vintage vacuum hose attachment. :D
