Which Remington 870 model for a M41A build?

There seems to be different models of the 870 - Wingmaster and Magnum to name two off the top of my head. Which model is the right model or does it not matter.

I noticed that some models have removable barrels is that a feature on all 870 models?

Or does anyone know where an deactivated 870 can be purchased from?

Thanks

Not to enter the fray but according to the ATF there is there is no such thing as a deactivated sawed off shotgun. So proceed with great caution.

The wingmaster 870 is what you want, with an un-parkerized chamber.

perhaps Matsuo can comment on what it takes to legally "deactivate" a shotgun, but there is a way, and the ATF does consider that way perfectly legal.

It is a Remington 870. The Wingmaster or the Police Special will work so long as they have the blue finish. The Spas fore end was turned around and used in place of the Remington fore end. There are a number of ways to legally deactivate a live firearm and BAFTE has that information available, but the rule of thumb is the 8-hour rule which essentially means a skilled gunsmith in a shop should not be able to reactivate the gun within 8 hours. There are specific processes but deactivation should be left to a licensed gunsmith knowledgeable in the laws and processes. The process essentially renders the original firearm inoperable forever, don't count on reusing it as a real gun again. Some parts have to be welded on that normally screw on, etc. It is pretty much a permanent modification.

Here's a photo of a real 870 used in my pulse rifle.

Gotcha! Never knew there was an 870 in there with SPAS12 parts on the outside. Learn something new every day.

I always laughed how they said in the movie that the rifle portion fired 10mm explosive-tip caseless (I think it was 10mm they said), yet there were many scenes where you could clearly see the .45cal casings ejecting out of the Tommy Gun inside the shell.

Looks perfect. Hey...an airsoft Tommy upper and Rem 870 lower. I've seen them with the airsoft upper but not with a lower like the Tanaka. It would add a lot of detail and movement that would be lacking in a solid resin lower.

I worked with a fellow RPF'r (Matsuo) to create some dummy caseless 10mm rounds that fit in a Thompson SMG mag. Turned aluminum "penetrator/kinetic" projectiles on some, ball ammo projectiles on others. Based on the actual caseless ammo developed by H&K

yes they look well cool, ive just bought a built up monsters in motion PR, but want to convert the grenade launcher so it chambers and pumps, just got hold of a genuine spas cage and grip so now need the 870.

just outof interest, are those rounds available at all ?????

Thanks fro all the replies.

Is the Barrel of the Wingmaster 870 removable - can it be screwed off?

If this is possible wouldn't replacing it with a dummy short barrell be ideal as it is not even really seen under the Sapas cage - this would be prefferable than actually sawing down the barrel and dealing with all the BATF regs of deactivation.

870 barrels can be replaced. I would take another 870 barrel (they aren't that expensive, and it sounds as if you are doing a big dollar project) cut to size and then plugged from the breech end so it looks hollow from the front. The plug should be permanent i.e., silver solder or weld. Also, if you mount the 870 the way most people attach their replica 870's, you'll need to make some adjustments to allow the 870 trigger group, etc. to fit. It will portrude into the shroud/magazine area. It can be done, but be prepared for some machine shop time and you may have to work on the magazine well.

Good luck, post pics of your progress!
