What's on your workbench? (no Star Wars, Marvel or DC stuff)

Grail tablet. 3D printes in 4 parts.
I'm considering molding this when its done and casting in concrete to put one out in the garden.

I had access to real components and took measurements whenever I needed them. I modeled each part individually and then combined them into more major chunks. The whole thing is printed in 11 parts. Certain bits of detail and measurements needed to be adjusted in order to allow for this scale. The cradle for example prints incredibly thin at this size and would warp so it was thickened very slightly while still allowing the model to be repositionable.

I knew that in all likelihood I would be asked to mass produce these once word got out around the different units so ease of printing was a tiny bit more important. I wasn't able to finish this one as cleanly as i would have liked due to time constraints but i'm the only one who has noticed honestly. The 1/3rd will just be for me and I have a good long list of wishes for it. Cant wait to dig back into the files.

Your M3 really looks good. I'm on the opposite side of printing stuff at 1:1 which presents its own problem with limitations on what you can print on what kind of printer, with the size, and you also have to look at engineering for internal metal structure to support the PLA.

I really get personal satisfaction recreating the designs and mechanics of this weapon. While my stuff isn't exact, especially internally, it is pretty accurate externally.

Have you ever thought of not casting it in concrete and just painting it and displaying it that way? I'm not sure how a painted PLA object will withstand the harsh conditions.

With harsh british winters it doesn't stand up well at all. I have a fertility idol out amongst the flowers and it didnt do well.

Its just an idea at this point though.

Weaving another week of printing in the fabric of this hobby...thanks Julian on CGTrader, great file - also reminds me I have to go back a week and adjust my first layer again on my printer, if I want to follow the tenets of checking your settings after changing filament ;)

You beat me to it! I got the same file from CGTrader but I’m doing a milled aluminum version of the 241. If you were able to split the other 8 parts into separate files, I’d love to chat with you :)

I went to Julian because we needed an adjustment to fit on the Prusa, he responds quickly and can determine whats possible

Since when has this thread prohibited Star Wars, Marvel, and DC stuff? And why?

I've got a few things going, as usual.

A while back I had a slow day in the shop and got a little too excited trying to decide which helmet to dust off and work on again. I did end up making a nifty pyramid though:

I've also continued making terribly slow progress on this beauty:

I've had my Cobra Commander helmet mold sitting next to the bench when I do fiberglass work lately. So whenever I'm laying something up and end up with a bit of extra material, I make another helmet. With a little extra trimming and a darker coat of blue, they become Cobra infantry helmets:

I'm also working on a Halo SPNKr T-shirt launcher:

There's more of course, but I'm behind on taking pictures.

At my work workbench, you never know what might turn up, but lately it’s been control consoles.

The home work bench. Watchmaking...

IMG_0777[1].JPG

And no complaints about small parts! This wooden dowel above is the tip of a toothpick.

This Incabloc spring has me stuck currently. It is very difficult to manipulate this thing, believe it or not.

Ah, yes. The Vibrograph. A weapon from a more civilized time...

I lost a hard drive with a decade of collected information, including lift angles of several thousand movements. Fortunately, I printed the list and have it in a binder here. It is critical info to have after an overhaul.

That spring is from an Omega 565 and the only thing keeping me from assembling it. It’s the upper incabloc spring so I can’t really do much if anything until I get that in and the setting pressed back in to proper depth. I’ve broken two and lost one so far...

No pics at the moment but

Re doing the straps for my Tie Pilot chest armor

Rebuilding the pedal for my ghost trap

And finishing up a Jim T. Kirk Tricoder kit.

Finished my Tenet stuff. The backpack talisman, an inverted air tank from the Tallinn chase scene, and my very own “241” cut from a 5 lb chunk of solid aluminum.
