What's on your workbench? (no Star Wars, Marvel or DC stuff)

Re: What's on your workbench?

I realize I'm sounding like a broken record ... or an annoying little brother ...

but may I ask as to HOW you went about creating this piece?

:)

That's a kit I have been developing for several years now, the first iteration I made from a handful of blurry screen caps and some magazine articles. I made the original master out of wood plastic and bondo. Every few years I retool the kit and improve it.

GOOD GOD those are AMAZING looking !!! :eek

Might I inquire as to how you went about creating those works of art? - MDF?

:popcorn

Dont laugh, the stands were done using a sponge. I learned it from a master in art back in 83 and still use it today..:love

Re: What's on your workbench?

look inside the shell, not many people have seen this, if you have one of my older kits youll notice the difference.

I have a few items to work on.

1st) Relativity Tricorder - Stapleton body, Gmprops boards.
I have it partially painted up. Needs a bit of touching up with the paint work. The wire snapped off the battery so I need to buy a soldering kit to repair this.

2nd) Mark X Tricorder - I have the stapleton body, and have put forward a deposit for one of Gmprops boards. So while I wait on gerry, Ive been prepping the kit. As with the relativity kit, I have painted up the Mark X kit, and that also needs touching up (This was my first time painting a kit, so had to learn from my mistakes :p )

3rd) First Contact Phaser (Playmates) - This was just over £10 on eBay. As soon as it arrived, I got straight down to stripping it apart. Primed and painted each bit. Just so I could get a rough idea of ease, show up any sanding that may need doing etc. its pretty much a straightforward job. I need to grab a couple cans of paint. And will get back to finishing each item off.

The Phaser looks amazing already, just from a primer and paint job!

Tricorders are looking very nice. I will get pics up shortly.

Re: What's on your workbench?

Here's what I'm working on.

As you can see, the phaser handle area is looking decent.
The head area for some reason crystallised (it is cold in the countryside right now) but not sure why it didn't take like the handle did.
The bits that look blue on the sides is the original colour and this is where I ran out of paint.
The under segment is just primed, so should take the paint perfectly.

The tricorders are ok, but need some sanding down to get rid of some minor imperfections.
The inside case of the relativity tricorder needs a bit taken down, as it was very tight with the battery and circuit boards in. So to be able to close the case properly up. This has to be done, its shouldn't take too long.

Let me know what you think. Or any advise for painting perfectly.
As I said this was my first time painting up a prop kit.

Re: What's on your workbench?

I just had two matching water guns given to me. I intend on doing a lot of work on them. I'll get some pictures of them up soon. They'd be good for a steam punk style I think.

Re: What's on your workbench?

Here's the squirt guns I mentioned. Didn't really get a great start on them today, but I intend to get them at least painted all the way tomorrow.

Re: What's on your workbench?

In the second phase of weathering. I went with a Midgnight Pearl and Dark Blue Metallic for the base and colonial red for the trim. Badge and then final chalks.

Re: What's on your workbench?

Not quite on my workbench, but definitely on my desktop, in the hopes of eventually having something to put on my desktop.

Around 200 hours of restoration to bring this logo back to as close to new condition as possible. Probably the biggest digital challenge I've ever undertaken.

All because I want a Pitbull durnitt!
