What's on your workbench? (no Star Wars, Marvel or DC stuff)

Re: What's on your workbench?

Best i could tell, they're just tacked on there randomly. I copied the lettering on the sword Cassandra wields in Soul Calibur 3 exactly. I'm guessing the game designer who patterned the sword just wanted something cool.

Wrapped up the sword, shield, pauldrons, and medallion for my wife's DragonCon costume this year. Easily the most propwork I've ever done for one single character!

Congratulations on your wife, i mean... accomplishment... i mean... props...i mean...

...
Way to go

(Seriously though, The props ARE beautiful. And your wife is lovely, I think I speak for many on this board that many of us hope to be so lucky someday, haha) Did she do the sewing for the project?

haha, thanks! Believe me, I know I'm lucky. I was just going to make Cassandra's sword & shield because she is my favorite SC character. Emily said "If you make the armor, I'll make the rest of the costume."

Can't ask for more in a partner!

Re: What's on your workbench?

Thorssoli, great work so far!

I'm currently making a 2 foot version of this:

This is absolutely brilliant. Would, or are you, considering making the proto in a way to harness an estes rocket motor/engine? It would be moderately functional and provide some unique photo ops. Yup. It sure would. :)

Thanks!, It's made from heavy PVC so it won't be able to fly. It will have lighting though!

Here are a few progress pics.

I redesigned the bottom. This will help with the lighting.

Re: What's on your workbench?

Still brilliant!! How many fins are on this thing? Is it a three or four fin-er? ...is it District 9 material? ...origins please. I've only seen the film once. :)

Re: What's on your workbench?

Thanks! It will have 3 fins. I drew it that way because it was easier than trying to figure out the perspective! :lol

It's not a prop or anything just an idea I had. After this is done, I have plans for 3 medium ones and some smaller support vehicles.

I designed the corporation logo and will try to make some propaganda to go along with it. It's intent was to be a ship/robot thing that lands on earth sent from a secret base that was set up inside the moons core. The corporation want's to bring Earth to it's knees. :love Similar to a James Bond Bad Guy plan!!

Re: What's on your workbench?

Looking great! That's a great way to display those...

Here's just one of the pieces on the bench(es) here at the moment. 1979 Alien chest, arms and hands. We're doing restoration and creating a really cool wall-mount display for it...

Re: What's on your workbench?

Worked on a handful of things today. I sanded my Boba Fett and Green Ranger Pepakura helmets, and I did a bit of work on some of the PVC sabers I'm working on (mostly filling and sanding). I'm waiting on a 3 pound tub of Aves Fixit Sculpt to arrive so I can start doing some major work on the helmets. The bondo is great for surfacing and spot filling, but very bad in the sculpting department. The fixit sculpt is just like using clay and cures rock hard. So once I do some work with that I'll upload more photos.

Re: What's on your workbench?

I'm working on a back to basics project. Many, many years ago I used to build stuff with only what I had laying around the shop. More or less scraps and junk with wood as my main medium.

I decided to build a Klingon d'k tahg knife this way. Now I'm limiting myself to only what I have laying around my shop to build this. My material supplies are pretty bleak. I have several pieces of poplar wood, a couple of partial scraps of styrene, a few small sheets of plexi and some sculpey. Other than that I have a couple of boxes of greeblies that I might be able to use.

Here's a current, although rough, work in progress pic. This probably won't be an incredibly accurate knife but you'll definitely know what it is.

The grips are square, but I don't intend to leave them like that. I'm going to shape them, which should give the illusion of more space between them and a more comfortable feel to the grip although it feels pretty good holding it now. They might also be a bit thick but once I get the upper greebly section added it should equal out. If not I'll just take some thickness off of them.

TE2 Armor and bucket. Alas, I have had to put it aside for a bit while I am going to school. It's going to be such a huge treat to get back to it!!

Definitely lucky! Though it does take a fair amount of work to keep the luck coming in ;)

And yep, finished images will go up on the site in about a month I'd say...

best,
Tom
