What's on your workbench? (no Star Wars, Marvel or DC stuff)

Re: What's on your workbench?

Oh, God. We're going to tip over. :lol

Re: What's on your workbench?

I got this model kit as a gift, and had a lot of fun with it. This is the first time I've lit a model, and the second time I've actually taken the time to paint one well (most of the models I did were when I was a little kid and just thought they were action figures I had to put together before I could play with them :lol).

After seeing all the great armor on here, I really noticed all the missing details, but it was fun to build nonetheless! And I think it came out pretty nicely.

Re: What's on your workbench?

An Amate Tequila bottle...full...2 projects in one...emptying it...and making the prop from it.

Maybe I won't do it in that order.:lol

Re: What's on your workbench?

Started this helmet for my little nephew a couple of days ago:

I started by building a pepakura dome for it, but I wasn't happy with the way the rest of it was shaping up, so I went with simple styrene sheets cut to shape. Here it is after priming:

Since then, I've done a bit of filling and sanding on the dome and it's really starting to shape up:

I've got to prime it again, to see what sort of small imperfections still need fixing. Then I'll need to carve out the dent in the dome, build the rangefinder tip, mold up the whole thing and rotocast it.

My current project (the barrel not the kitten):

I used the templates from the BBC on a brass tube.... (excruciatingly) waiting for the rest of the parts now.

Re: What's on your workbench?

This is possibly the most awesome thread on any forum I've ever seen. I see that I have a lot of work to do.

And, just to keep in the spirit of the thread alive, here's the most recent thing to come off my workbench:

Just after wetforming the leather for my Repo mask:

Which eventually begot this:
3282_1147499211439_1346320917_388132_7183937_n.jpg

And culminated in this:
4483_1152969148184_1346320917_406734_1601921_n.jpg

It came out... ok. The proportions of the mask were elongated and the knife for the stage presentation was rushed.. but then, it was being completed for a convention masq in Baltimore and I had to rush a bit to complete it on time. I'm currently planning on going back and reforming the face again to bring it closer to the original.
For the record, the gloves were ordered, but the coat and leather hardware was all built by me, the pattern for the coat modified from another coat I made.

Currently, my workbench is a mess of scraps and tools, waiting to be reset for the next project.. which, after this thread, is currently way way up in the air, I want to make *everything*... :cry

Re: What's on your workbench?

I'm moving in the next month, hopefully to a place with a yard, and the first thing on my workbench will either be:

a) an Indy golden idol bank conversion to quality replica.

b) an ESB E-11

or c) a second attempt at a hand drawn grail diary.

In the meantime, I need to get myself one of those Revell V8 models to finish up my DL-44 and a red button and chrome tape to finish my ESB saber.

Re: What's on your workbench?

Is that the MIM Rocketeer Jetpack or did you get it from someone else?

Well, I ordered it through MIM, but MIM got it from Acme Guys.

Basically, MIM is the middle man between Acme Guys and the buyer, but you can buy straight from Acme Guys if you like.

I ordered it through MIM because it was cheaper to pay the sales tax rather than the shipping and handling because the thing is heavy and big. (I live like 10 minutes away from MIM)

Re: What's on your workbench?

Picked up replica props Smallville fortress of solitude crystal and made the display base for it. The base uses an el sheet I wired in myself to light up the crystal. The crystal appears dark without such a light under it, which with matches the color more to the sunlight scenes of the show.

Unfortunately, I just got nailed by some unexpected bills, so it will probably all show up in the jy in the next day or so.

Completely handcarved, all that's left is to make the metal parts at the top.

Re: What's on your workbench?

I'm going to be putting together a step-by-step on this project, but it's not done yet so I just figured I'd post a few more pics of the kid fett helm here because I made a mold:
3722466037_d24cd81a19_o.jpg

Then I added the Boba-specific details to the first casting:
3723279430_fd14e5725e_o.jpg

(yes, that's the prototype painted lightish red, and yes I usually paint my prototypes lightish red)

Then I made lots of them (along with castings from a few of my other molds):

Now that they're all out of my way again, I can go on to the next step: painting up the helmet for my nephew.

Re: What's on your workbench?

Along with doing tons of prop/costume projects like everyone else on these forums. I am big car guru, been working on a custom Chrysler 300 logo for the trunk of my car.
