What is the best clearcoat for raw metal?

Need a good glossy clearcoat for an unpainted metal part, that will not make it look plasticy or fake.

I beleive it is a pot metal not steel or aluminum.

Thanks

Well future is water based, depending on the metal it might promote oxidation (rust) while it's drying and it will be trapped under the finish...

As for airbrush or rattle can, airbrushes are always a better option since you get more control and generally finer mist...
