what color to paint backer rod?

Hi folks,

I recently tried to paint my backer rods with the usual type of spray paint. Once dry, the paint peeled and fell right off again when slightly bending or even touching the backer rod.

So obviously, it either didn't like the backer rod's surface material or it simply wasn't made to allow for flexibility. Any hints on what type of paint to use?

Sadly I couldn't find black backer rod. The one I got is grey, which simply doesn't contrast with my bio as neatly.

Been through exactly the same problem. SImple solution, use plasti-dip. Its the only paint I found to work. I went through about 6 different types of spray paint, and they all peeled and cracked off. Plasti dip will not peel, crack, its on there for good, looks and works fantastic. Its a spay can, comes in different colors. Look for it!

hmmm, I painted a few backer test dreads, and my black didn t come off. But i forget what black I used. It was a flexible non cracking black. I think it was from a car paint store. For painting soft material dash boards. Yup. That`s it.

Plasti-dip is definitely the way to go.

I had the same peeling/flaking problem. Plasti-dip solved that really quick!!!

Dont put too much plastidip on.. it will make them stiff as a board.

try FW inks, black india..

It goes on so sweet, i painted my dreds even after the rings were on them. gives them just the right darkness and gloss.

Any major art supply store should carry India Ink. It would likely be in the calligraphy supplies area.

You still should seal them in black Plastip.. 1-2 light layers. This will give it some strength. Otherwise they might tear or have pieces taken out of them.

i wonder if you could drop the ink in the plasti-dip and make that the final application.
