As you know, when trying to replicate a prop one of the key methods is to use detailed reference photos. However, determining the size of an object can be tricky as there are a lot of factors that can result in false results (camera distortion, shadows, angles, perspective, etc.).
I am wondering what techniques you use to determine the size of something.
More specifically, I am wondering for those who do the overlay method (3D modelling an object). What is your technique of choice to get a perfect overlay of the image and the 3D model that accounts for camera phenomenon?
Thanks!
