What are the chances for another Samaritan?

Hi All,

I know this post may be a bit pre-mature, but HBII is coming out I was wondering if there is any info that the Samaritan may be re-issued or if any other company has the license?

WHile I'm at it, I'd also love to see is in cast metal!

thanks,

Rob

It would be pretty crappy if they re-issued it.
I can see it now:
(first run)
"Hey, buy your collectible Samaritan, issued to only 500 pieces!"
(they get sold out and our now going for mad money. Those who bought one made a solid investment)
(this run)
"Hey, buy your Hellboy TWO Samaritan! Yeah, it's identicle to the first one but the plaque says TWO! And because the first one sold so well, this one will be limited to 5 THOUSAND pieces!"

Yeah, if they do this I'm gonna be MAD! Not only will I start a campaign to bash and boycott Sideshow at every turn, but I'm gonna send them a very nasty e-mail! This in part is why I decided not to recast it.

Well let's back up a bit... If Sideshow, or whoever, has the license, why wounldn't they make more Samaritans if they think they can make money? :lol

This is, as I understand it, how your quaint system of "capitalism" is supposed to work. :rolleyes

On the other hand, I see in promo pix that in addition to the Samaritan, Hellboy wields some kind of huge multibarrel grenade-launcher thing... I imagine if there are replica HB2 props, they might start with something unique like that instead of rereleasing the old gun.

Ah, yes my friend. You refer to the "Big Baby". The name comes from the side of the barrels. They should be large enough to accomodate a shell as big as a Gerber baby food jar.
Yes, I'm serious!

I would believe it!

Those are the shells in the case behind Hellboy, if I'm not mistaken.

At first I thought you were being sarcastic, until I read the part about you deciding not to recast it. :confused Unless you were planning to sell it, or if you're one of the people who paid mad money for one after they became scarce, does it really matter how much it's worth in the future? You've got a cool prop, and I thought that's what most of the people here were in it for.

I guess that sounds more accusational than I meant it to. Just registering my surprise is all.

Do people really buy props as investments?

That concept is so far out of my thinking I can't even imagine it.
Limited edition collectibles (especially numbered ones) are, by definition, investments: Han Solo plates, Franklin Mint chess sets, Beanie Babies, Magic playing cards, those China dolls that sell in the Sunday papers ... all investments because supply and demand will in theory drive the price up among those who missed out on the original offering. I say "in theory" because most such investments don't generate enough demand for it to work out that way.

I don't buy replicas as investments, but if one I do buy doubles or triples in value, I'm good with that.
