What are the best comic books that....

I've always liked the Tintin comics. Used to love them as a kid. Also Asterix and Obelix. Someone mentioned Calvin and Hobbes, which is great too.

For something more current, Persepolis was interesting. No magic there. Jimmy Corrigan, the Smartest Kid on Earth was also a good read, if a little depressing.

DC´s The Sandman Golden Age style Wesley Dodds from i think about 15 years ago. Go get any TBPs you can.

You beat me to it! As anyone who has seen my costuming posts knows, I love Sandman Mystery Theater.

How about "Strangers in Paradise" by Terry Moore? He has another book starting right now now called "Rachel Rising." It's about a girl solving her own murder. "Blankets" is a good graphic novel. And do yourself a favor and pick up a collected edition of "Box Office Poison," by Alex Robinson. "Optic Nerve" by Adrien Tomine and anything by Daniel Clowes are good bets.
Ditto on the recommendation for "Stray Bullets."

Oh, and how could I forget? The Spirit! There are collections of Will Eisner's original stories, plus you can sometimes find nice reprints at the flea market. DC also did their own runs. The one started by Darwyn Cooke is a favorite of mine, and the Sergio Aragones run was also pretty good. I don't know if it's still going, but there was also a "DC:First Wave" book featuring the character as well. Some heroes show up in that last one, but they're different takes on them.
