When Weta first put this out, they were in-between movies. Now, they are full-force working on the Hobbitt, so their retail sales side is put a bit on the backburner.

Oh, Weta and their lame excuses. :lol

zanderwitaz, list the dims you want...

Franky, I was kinda hoping to be HOLDING that new weapon in a few months! :lol

If they're so caught up doing Hobbity things then they need to bring in some more imps. :)

I'll be sure to get an answer from them at SDCC in a few months!!

Really hoping that the Submachine gun gets made! Much to my chagrin, I miss out on the original three full size replicas, and would hate for this to not be realized!

Bad news.
After emailing WETA, asking them when we should expect a decision regarding this poll, all I got was this answer (recently):

Hi,

Sorry, we won't be producing this item.

Cheers,

That short, that ultimate.

So the whole topic was just a whiff of hot air :cry
Very disappointing.
I had bought both.

cheers,

Not a whiff of hot air. If you will recall, the Hobbit was greenlit, then put on hold and then greenlit again. When it was put on hold it put Weta in a "don't know what to do with ourselves moment and they reached out to us about the possibility of making more guns. Then the Hobbit took off again and their full attention was turned to that.

Still hoping they would at least release an Fuel Canister replica.

The lack of new District 9 gun replicas can probably be balanced out with weapon replicas from Elysium. If not Weta, hope some other company produces them next year.

Yeh. Multiple irons in the fire. Hobbit will keep them busy for a while yet I'm sure, but it'd be nice if they came back to this some time. I'm not cooling off one bit for D9 stuff.

I'm with you on that one! The question becomes, as we get further and further from the movie, is there a big enough market to justify additional guns? That is what concerns me the most. :thumbsup

It'd be natural to think so. If District 10 ever happens, then that might be the more opportune time to bundle some remaining D9 items.

I wish this would happen but it doesn't look likely. I like the Chemrail design in Elyzium but since I didn't like the movie that much I'm less interested in that. (Plus the d9) weapons are much cooler.

I think that ship (D9) has sailed unfortunately.

Even if we had a list of 250 people to buy one of the other guns, I don't think they would channel the resources towards making one...

I have ordered a Chemrail as it's quite reasonably priced

I'm not a fan of resurrecting old threads, but seeing as the SMG will not be released I do have an inquiry that doesn't warrant a new one.

Is there a 3D rendered model of the SMG at the Weta Shop, and could these files be used to go to any 3D printer shop and simply print one out? I'd still like to get one, but don't have the financial budget to aquire an original prop.

I don't think there is. If there was one, printing it in full scale would probably cost more than any of the Weta 1:1 replicas did, I'm afraid!

The Assault Rifle was modelled in Rhino, then CNCd and moulded. I imagine the SMG was probably just made from castings pulled from the AR moulds then cut down -it is more or less the same gun. Doubt there was ever a full CG file for it.

Actually, that extrusion plastic isn't so pricey, it's like a couple cents per kilo. What would cost the most is the time I'll spend painting it.

The replicas cost $500 new, but go for $700-1000 today. WETA isn't likely to let anyone have access to any original 3d files. Maybe someone out there has modeled one up suitable for 3d printing (I haven't looked).

The D9 weapons are HUGE. Printing them on a professional machine with a print vendor would cost anywhere between $2000-3000 using the cheapest material. Printing on a consumer-type (reprap-style) printer would of course be cheaper if you did it yourself, but getting good results will take a LOT more time experimenting and testing than painting it would because there are different considerations to be taken into account with a PLA/ABS printer than with an SLS or high-end FDM machine. Even if the actual plastic filament is cheaper (you'd probably need 2-3 spools for an Arc Generator and it usually costs $25-40 per spool/kilo or more depending on the make and quality), printing the parts would take many days actual print time if you want anything close to workable quality... and you might be hard pressed to get someone to do it for you for less than what the official replicas are going for because of the work involved. So Nwerke was being pretty accurate in his statement. You could always put an ad in the Junkyard asking for 3d printing help and see if anyone replies but I wouldn't get my hopes up. Even if someone did a run of resin castings you'd be looking at $400-500 for a raw kit.
